italian_guy Posted April 11, 2005 Posted April 11, 2005 We have not strips... this year we adopted half-belts since we grade every 6 month we advance one full belt a year.In our case the exams includes:1)Kihon test.2) Kata test (2-3 katas one is the belt specific kata the other are previous belt katas)3) Bunkai test in pair.4) Kumite (3 minutes point sparring match but not for white to white-yellow)
Goju_boi Posted April 19, 2005 Author Posted April 19, 2005 hey I found out last week.Without eveb asking my sensei just told me youre gonna test at the end of the month https://www.samuraimartialsports.com for your source of Karate,Kobudo,Aikido,And Kung-Fu
swdw Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Also, depending on the Goju style, they may test as little as once every 6 months. You'll prgress faster if you make perfecting your technique yur goal and concentrate on that rather than getting a higher rank.
Fish Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 Good advice, swdw! "They can because they think they can." - School Motto.(Shodan 11th Oct 08)
Kara Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 do you think it's wrong to ask to be graded or turn down the grading cause you're not ready, for whatever reason? KBear"lick your wounds, anxious for the next ones"
Goju_boi Posted May 6, 2005 Author Posted May 6, 2005 do you think it's wrong to ask to be graded or turn down the grading cause you're not ready, for whatever reason? It's not wrong to ask if u think youre ready and u have the confidence do it.About turning the offer down, maybe, because your instructor is a sking u for a reason https://www.samuraimartialsports.com for your source of Karate,Kobudo,Aikido,And Kung-Fu
Dark Shogun Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 In every dojo I have trained in (Goju, Shotokan, Shito Ryu, Shukokai, Kendo) Sensei has informed us when we are ready to grade. In my current dojo gradings are conducted over a continous period. Sensei is ALWAYS watching and grading although he informs us when he is thinking about grading one of us. We have no 'grading day' as such.
