KarateKid7 Posted March 24, 2005 Posted March 24, 2005 Is this possible? Any1 kno of an advanced pressup workout - im not talking abt bog standard military pressups...like ones where the pectorals are hit especially hard which causes them to grow like mad. Is this possible using your own body weight or are free weights they only answer? Thanks "Life is a journey, not a destination""Absorb what is useful, reject what is useless""Knowing is not enough, we must apply. AnonymousOne Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 Weights and plyometric exercises are the best for developing this area. Also put a weight on your back and do press ups. 7th Dan ChidokaiA true combat warrior has to be hard as nails in mind, body and soul. Radok Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 One arm pushups, or pushups with weight will work. If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point. Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.
Ben Martin Posted March 28, 2005 Posted March 28, 2005 yep putting weights on your back is a good idea. once u can do 10 reps with a weigh on your back increase it. SevenStar Posted March 28, 2005 Posted March 28, 2005 even then, it's limited - how many plates are you gonna be able to balance / strap onto you? The ideal way to make your muscles grow is weight training. calesthenics aren't intended to increase muscle mass.
KarateKid7 Posted March 29, 2005 Author Posted March 29, 2005 You should visit mattfurey.com. Callisthenics do build mass. You just have to kno where to go once u reach the plateau in one exercise so u can advance to da advanced form of it. Hudson Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 I'm going to agree here and say that unless you're an absolute beginner you're not going to get a great increase in size no matter how you do your push-ups. Go with weight training for pecs. The game of chess is much like a swordfight; you must think before you move.

To make a muscle grow, you need increased resistance. Heavy resistance is the ONLY way you will recruit both your type 1 and 2 fibers. with pushups, for instance, after you can do more than 20 or so, you reach a point where type 2 fibers are no longer recruited. This submaximal growth will not increase muscle size....it then becomes an endurance excercise.Even with this "advanced" form you speak of, how many advanced forms are there? what happens when you can do them all? like I said, you can only add so much weight to these exercises, and doing that now makes them weight bearing exercises... weight training is the way to gain size.
Radok Posted March 29, 2005 Posted March 29, 2005 ^I think your thinking of type "A" and type "B" muscle. Type one and two are variations of type B. also, if you buy a weight vest, you can add up to 100 pounds, so you would have to be able to do 20 one armed pushups with 100 pounds to stop advancing If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point.
