Karateka
Drink tea, it flushes out the system. Sorry, it is what my quack doctor used to say. I agree with the other testements, stretch slowly and take your time. It will get better, but only with time. Ti-Kwon-Leap
maybe take some extra time before class to warm up slowly until your muscles get stronger. Also, avoid doing any kicking without properly warming up. (this is crucial) Good luck! Ti-Kwon-Leap"Annoying the ignorant since 1961"
Bretty101
I seem to go through phases with clicking in my hips. I've always found if my hips start clicking and i carry on using it the 'click' becomes a 'twang' and i pull something. (Technical terms i know ) I'd say take it easy! yeah as said do some GENTLE stretches but go easy else you could make the joint loser. Another good thing i find is to do plenty of hip rolls before and in between any kicking exercises, it gets evry thing moving and is nice and steady. If your feeling a MUSCULAR pain on when doing and Axe, front kick or any rising kick with to the front with your foot upright. This is you Hip abductor muscle (you can feel it on the top of your leg where it meets your hip) If your feeling MUSCULAR pain when doing inside or outside cresent kick these kicks use the hip flexers to generate the left to right or right to left motion. With any Muscular problems the answer is always rest or consult a doctor. And it looks like i've just repeated everything every one else has said . Elektra
same thing happened to me, and seems to have gone away good advice from everybody but above all - be careful if it gets painful: a friend had to quit karate because they eventually figured out there was something wrong with her hip joint so now she can feel atmospheric pressure changes and everything
KickChick
Elektra ... Welcome to KarateForums (stop by Introductions Forum!) Yes exactly .... as with any pain that may last for several days-- go see a doctor! That is the "human barometer" conditiion ... I always thought that was a bunch of bull doodoo but in actuality it isn't. Barometric pressure is caused by the weight of all the air above the ground pressing down - gravity pulls air toward the earth just as it pulls everything else. It's called "barometric" pressure because an instrument called a barometer is used to measure air pressure. Air hasweight. Gradual changes in atmospheric pressure are typically undetectable. Severe changes in barometric pressure are easier to detect. Have you seen the movie 'Total Recall'? If you have, you've may remember Arnold's eyes popping out their sockets during a sequence where he's exposed to the low pressure environment of mars. The feeling your friend may experience is a dull to sharp pain in thejoints and muscles. joints expand, they press against nerves around the joints. As the atmospheric pressure drops, the fluid in the joints expand.... and as the joints expand, they press against nerves around the joints. You can relieve pain by massaging the muscles (some people crack the joints to relieve the pressure but that isn't advisable!) ... more info on reducing pain below.
