aefibird
I started 6 1/2 years ago and have loved every minute of my martial arts training! I was brought up in a "Judo household" - my father and brother both trained in Judo, although not at the same time period. However, my parents wouldn't let me train in MA - something that I thought (and still think) was very unfair. "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." mindsedgeblade
I started a few months after I turned 19. Now I'm nearly 21, and I know that MA is something I always want to be a part of me. Funny thing is, now my mom is getting interested- but not in the hard styles like me. She likes the sound of Tai Chi- more meditative stuff. greenbelt_girl15
I started when I was 13.I don't know why but even though I didn't know much about the martial arts part of me always wanted to try it.When I did try it I just knew that it was for me and I've been at it ever since. David
I began aged 27 on 27th November 1997. Wish I'd started sooner; glad I got to it eventually. Rgds, David ** Censor-O-Meter: 9 **
MASIsshinryu
I started at perhaps 11, or so, but could not continue after a brief period of time. I knew it was what I wanted, but could not get to/afford classes for some time. I restarted at 16 (late '83 / Early '84), and have continued to learn / grow with it since then. CheekyMusician
I suppose I'd always been interested in martial arts from when I was a kid, but no-one I knew studied them apart from one boy at school, and my mum always tried to put me off when I showed interest in them. I suppose she was just worried I'd hurt myself. I finally started training at 17 and trained for about a year and half, started Uni and had too much work and had to give up something, and karate was really the only thing that I could give up, although I always fully intended to go back as I loved it. I finally went back this week after a break of about a year and a half...I'm surprised how much I remember and how much I've missed it! Smile. It makes people wonder what you've been up to. Master Jules
I started when I was 7, waaaaaay back in 1973, after seeing Bruce Lee's "Enter the Dragon"......I came home from the movie theater with my dad, immediately packed the laundry bag with pillows, and started beating it and kicking it (and making Bruce Lee noises) LOL.......mom thought it would be a good idea to get my into a program, so I started at a local Kyokushin school, and the rest as the say is history... italian_guy
I started kickboxing in Mar. 2003 when I was almost 42. Then I switched to karate Apr. 2004. I also started Tai chi chuan in Jan. 2004. I wish I would have started earlier, but still enjoy my MA practice. I hope I can continue training for long.
