AnonymousOne
Speed is developed by developing your fast twitch fibre in your muscles. I have experimented with speed training for many many years, probably around 30 years. First you have to have strong muscles as a solid foundation. Then you must practise speed using several methods. I highly recommend using weights and then followed by plyometric exercises to build explosive muscle power. I also recommend using light weights, as fast as you can, mimicking exact Karate movements. Then use high repetition. Of course there is also the need to practise the techniques in the normal fashion over and over as fast as you can. You simply have to keep pushing the envelope. If you are constantly working hard on looking for speed and working very hard at it, but constantly telling your muscles you want and need speed it will come. Speed in Karate is anaerobic work. Look at the way you train and spend as much time as you can on anaerobic work. Repetition solves most Karate problems 7th Dan ChidokaiA true combat warrior has to be hard as nails in mind, body and soul. Warriors are action takers and not action fakers. Croy
just thought i'd throw in a few of my favorite workouts that were shown to me by one of my instructers who is now my training partner. for kicking excersises, try breaking down the technique into each specific movement. for the roundhouse/turning kick, the first movement is to pick up your knee, so do knee raises as fast as you can for 15secs for about 3 sets or so. your second movement is to extend your leg to finish the kick, so have a friend hold a shield or some paddles at about knee height, slightly bend forward as to help with your balance, and for 15secs, kick as fast as you possibly can, the key to this workout is to try and only use your quads, this excersises gives you a faster snap. if you need to work on turning your hips faster, do the same thing just angle the paddles so your forced to completely turn over to hit them. i hope this helps, these are a few of my favorite excersises and i find them extremely effective for those of us that like to throw multiple techniques with one leg before bringing the leg down 1st Dan CTF TaekwondoShodan Tomiki Ryu Aikido
