Using Chi to manipulate physiology

Recommended Posts

I kno it seems far fetch'd but DO u think it is possible? I.e. change the metabolism of one so that one can gain weight...i.e. can u imagine yourself bigger and exercising and putting on weight and use chi as a catalyst for this visualisation...could any-one guide me?

Thanks.

Visualizing what you want to be will always help you.

Your mind has a great effect on your body so if you believe that chi will help you, it will. A lot of people say that this is not chi but just positive thinking. I say, what's the difference as long as you get good results.

tomato tomato lol

But seriously folks...I personally belive that chi/ki can have a strong effect. Focus is everything of course, but also an honesty to your goal.

One of my favorite expressions is that positive thinking works most of the time, but negative thinking works all the time. I.E. Attitude is everything.

I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.

Qigong has an effect on the physiology of the brain (which parts are active, hormones being released, nueral connections, etc). The brain affects the body (hormones control different physiological responses in the body). Does chi affect physiology? Yes. Am I going to focus my chi and have my muscles bulk up? Unfortunately, I'm not like the Incredible Hulk.

I know this has been said at least five times in response to your question, but I feel as though this could not be stated enough. Focus is the key to everything in this walk of life. Focus is everything in your training as is it everything in your studies. Now with that said, Chi can be focused to do anythinng. If you have the time to read about it, pick up the chi bible. The Tai Chi Classics. Most book stores do not carry it, but they can order it. If you have any other questions, send me a personal message.

Thanks guys. I think i see the bigger picture now. you have all opened my mind. In response to taiji fajin's sarcastic comment about using chi to bulk up, i was just merely making a physiological link. I have heard of bodybuilders which imagine themselves stronger which can boost their strength up to 30% and i was wondering if there are specific chi exercies to help one focus but i realise now that it is about general focus rather than specific focus.

Then again, to meditate is to think about nothing or to meditate upon a thought?

Sorry, I wasn't trying to come off as insulting, I was making (what I thought was) an obvious overexaggeration to make a point, and to reference the Incredible Hulk for my own amusement. I know you didn't think that you could just sit there and increase in size.

As for thinking during meditating, there are many different types of meditation, some in which you focus on certain objects or thoughts, but in taiji you are suppose to "go into quiet." It should be a kind of alert relaxation of the mind, where you are not thinking about anything, but you are (more?) aware of what is going on around you.

Lol its ok. dont worry. Yeh...that seems to be the emphasis...i was probably thinking out aloud when i said my meditation statement...it was in response to something i read in a meditation guide some time back about meditating upon a tiger for example would give you all the qualities of a tiger...I think this is object specific meditation rather than the broad non focussed open minded meditation...in taiji, u are "going into quiet" but like you say, there are probably different types of mediation :)
