I see this kick in movies all the time. What happens is someone grabs this person from behind the person being grabbed kicks upward in what is practically a split but satnding up and hits the person behind them in the face. My question is- Is this a real type of kick? If so, what is it called and what MA style teaches it. And, lastly, what can I do to train and get the flexibility to do it?

Not exactly sure if I am thinking of the same one as you are but you see a lot of the front stretch kick or stiff legged front kick . Looks good in movies . Not sure how effective it would be .

We are not so much individual beings as individual points of perception within one immense being.

I think thats the one that I described but it has been a long time since I have seen that one . My favorite movie kick is the Rothrock kick where someone grabs her in and her leg goes all the way back and lands on the top of his head . Almost looks like a yoga move .

That sounds like our front stretch kick (TKD). When I do it, I knee myself in the face if I don't move my face to the side LOL.

I seen people (I tried also) break with it. The holder would hold the board behind my head (or who ever is trying it) and that kick is used to break the board. But it's not an easy break.

As far as flexibility goes, you would have to be able to do a front split (with what ever leg you will use for the kick out in front). Here's a good thread on stretching: http://www.karateforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=6186

I hope this helps.

Not really. Not from my experience. Like I said, it's barely powerful enough to break a board with. So, I don't think so. They make it look good in movies though LOL.
