Assassin_with_sais Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 I'm not very flexible when it comes to spinning kicks. However I need to learn to do a Spinning Roundhouse Kick pretty quickly. The problem with my Spinning Roundhouse Kick is height. I'm 5'7" and I'm having a hard time getting ANY height to it. As I said before I'm not very flexibleso I need to get height. Any advise?
isshinryu5toforever Posted February 27, 2005 Posted February 27, 2005 you just need to work on your flexibility, either that or jump (not advised) He who knows others is wise. Assassin_with_sais Posted February 28, 2005 Author Posted February 28, 2005 The jump is what I need to work on really. I don't get it though, I'm pretty flexible otherwise, I mean I have a front kick of 6'2".
isshinryu5toforever Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 A front kick is different flexibility though. That's more your hamstrings. Round kicks and side kicks rely on hip flexibility. Someone who can do a stradle (side split) can kick high sideways because of flexible hips and groin tendons. That is the flexibility you need. He who knows others is wise. Ben Martin Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 by streching after lessons. my sensei says when we are grading it doesnt matter how high we can do a kick what they are looking for is the technique. Assassin_with_sais Posted February 28, 2005 Author Posted February 28, 2005 What kind of stretches would be best?
isshinryu5toforever Posted February 28, 2005 Posted February 28, 2005 After class try to get as far in a straddle (side split) as you can. Push it to the point where it hurts a little. Then try to go a little farther each time. Do butterfly stretch. Stand in a side kick or roundhouse chamber with your side against a wall and have someone push your leg toward the wall and up. You know what I mean? Then do the same stretch with the leg extended. It takes a long time to see results as far as flexibility is concerned. He who knows others is wise. ShotokanKid Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Just keep practicing. That's what I did and I can kick higher now "What we do in life, echoes in eternity.""We must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men."
TigerHeart Posted March 9, 2005 Posted March 9, 2005 Jalakaefanhan (crocodile hit with its tail) is a spinning roundhouse kick in Muay Thai, Firstly you need to strecth more often, try this for instnace focused on your target pivot your front foot swung the back leg and contact it with the leg. http://www.muaythai.com/Images/Maemai/Jarakaefadhang_face.jpg The style of the kick has more power into it...as long as you can kick head height you will have no trouble doing it... There will be a day that you can't cope with your life, I want you to look at the star and remember, I always smile back at you. luV u lots Jen
