So I would like to know how I can tell if hes good enough?
ryangruhn Posted February 25, 2005 Posted February 25, 2005 If he is an instructor under Guro Inosanto is a good start. Either that or certified under an instructor of Guro I. Check out for yourself: https://www.inosanto.com Gruhn https://www.durattan.com ~ "THE MOST DURABLE RATTAN STAND-IN"
chiflow Posted March 30, 2005 Posted March 30, 2005 here are some questions you should ask yourselfwhat do you want to learn? Does HE\SHE know these things? Can they demonstrate the skills they ask there students to do?Does your Dojo offer a safe envoirment to learn and train? Are safety precautions taken to ensure no serious injury? Is the Dojo clean?JKD is a wonderful art that brakes boundries and rules for somefor some martial arts is like a salad, the more you add the better it gets do you like a salad that is just salad? or do u think it gets better when you add carrots, greens and other things? you can gain many skills in the Martial arts world, and some JKD schools i have trained with have healthy balance of many skills, ground, weapons, locks, chokescheck the place out if you feel good about going there and you feel good when you leave, then check it out for a while and if you find hes not for you at least you have some things to make your salad a little more colorful . sometimes it is good to get different perspectives Its all about the Chiflow

RealPortugal Posted April 6, 2005 Posted April 6, 2005 maybe you can tell if he or her is good enough by the way they show you the forms or kata? his or her stance and tech. Maybe this could help you see if the teacher is good and loves and also understands what him or her is doing.

Lazy Scholar Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 no one truly understanding jkd or good at it? I know a few groups that would be able to prove otherwise. you scythe with it!!!!!!
italian_guy Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 dont go because there no 1 that turely understands or good at jkd!I don't think so either. JKD is a set of principles (written in the TAO of JKD), you can add any skill from any art and modify it according to these principles. My school teaches a mix of boxing, muay thai, wing chun, chi-na, kali and Pentjak Silat (Dan Inosanto Method). I also saw a book that applied some of those principles to karate (Freestyle Karate: a guide to sparring by Anderson). So I think there are people that can apply those principles but like in any other art there are also frauds but this is common to all.
