June1 Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 I'm going mad! I feel like I have to hold back on my kicks because my belt keeps flying up to my face. Not good! Hopefully for my next grading, I'll ask for a shorter belt. I've heard stories of people getting black eyes from their belts! *shudder* Must avoid at all costs! Kool Kiais: ICE! DIE! KITES! ShotokanKid Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Lost an eye? Ouch "What we do in life, echoes in eternity.""We must all fear evil men. But there is another kind of evil which we must fear most, and that is the indifference of good men."

Hopefully for my next grading, I'll ask for a shorter belt. I've heard stories of people getting black eyes from their belts! *shudder* Must avoid at all costs! Yea, I almost did once. My red belt it a good length, but it's too broken in. I still get whacked with it when I do front kicks. Just not in the eyes anymore, thank goodness LOL Laurie F
cathal Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Why not just as a fellow student for an old belt you could use, or maybe your sensei has an extra one lying around? If its really a safety concern then it shouldn't matter what colour belt you wear...maybe even just order a new one. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu
Aiko87 Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 I like my belt "broken in" and a couple inches above my knees for the length. Though thats still long enough for me to hit myself in the face...during one tournament I was doing unsu and my belt flew up when I went into the first cat stance and smacked me in the face .
June1 Posted March 1, 2005 Posted March 1, 2005 Jussi Häkkinen, scissors aren't a bad idea, but I want to preserve my belts, keep them as they are. Besides, the stripes and label are at the ends. I can't part with them! Thanks for the tip, though. Kool Kiais: ICE! DIE! KITES! DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHH! KIAI!"Know Thyself""Circumstances make me who I am."
gojoinstructor Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I like mine to hang just above mid thigh and broken in. My wife likes hers a bit longer. Why, I don't know
Kieran-Lilith Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 Only thing we're allowed to scissor off is labels. Sensei hates the labels, makes us look messy, he says. He who gains a victory over other men is strong; but he who gains a victory over himself is all powerful Lao-tsu
Shorin Ryuu Posted March 2, 2005 Posted March 2, 2005 I cut off the Shureido label on mine. I thinks labels are a bit too much. Some might think belts are a bit too much (I'm not too attached to mine, but it's just useful if you're in a large organization), but I draw the line at the label. If people want to know who made it, they can always ask... Martial Arts Blog:http://bujutsublogger.blogspot.com/
