hey all, i have been doing shorin-ryu kennyukan for a bout 1 1/2 years now and just recently i have pulled a muscel in the top of my hamstring just under my waist(under my * cheek), and ever since then i have never been able to kick as high :( . Does anyone have any tips on stretching it, besides leg raises (do 100 each leg every day).

and i have never been able to stretch my legs apart very well, like doing the splits, how can i stretch that to slowly get them muscels flexible??

Stretch after your workout, and push your stretch to its limit, to where it hurts and you can't go any farther. It takes a very long time to regain flexibility or to gain flexibility. Find the stretches that you see work best for you. The only way to help your split is to try to do them. You go down a bit farther each time, and over time you will be able to work your way down.

Shorin-ryu kennyukan? I've never heard of that branch. Do you happen to have any links to it, or tell me where it comes from...background of it?

well this is how it goes, we just have shorin-ryu karate do training on tue, wed, thur, friday, and we do matayoshi kobudo (kenuykan) on sundays, the same sensei teaches, but we just really mix them together in lessons sometimes, but we either grade karate, kobudo or both, 1 grading is'nt for both styles..

hope i just didnt confuse u...lol

Give it a rest, let it heal. Maybe get some physiotherapy for it. After the muscle has healed properly, you can begin stretching and adding its flexibility.

If there's a rupture in your muscle, stretching won't make it better - it will only delay the healing process.

I agree with jussi, it will take time to heal. Maybe get a heating pack, this will help heat your muscles, then have a good stretch. The key is to stick with your stretching, this is very iportant. If it doesn't heal after a few weeks if I were you I would consider seeing a doctor about it.

I think one of the worst thing I always do (i guess you do the same) is to return and start practicing without proper and enough rest, some times i know what i am doing is wrong but still can't stop. I was practicing while my leg was in the cast and it took me 6 months to heal a broken fibula and my doctor was wonder what could be wrong of course i was not giving him any clue.
