Night-Dragon Posted February 15, 2005 Posted February 15, 2005 hi everybody I acually pratice shotokan karate. this is my second year in this art. Well I noticed that it is merely based upon phisical strenght, speed and strech capacity of the student. I want to grow, knowing that my phisical body has great limits, and donnow how to do. What do you suggest me? Add qi gong pratice to karate? How qi will be manifestate in karate pratice and daily life activity? I'd like to know what is qi and how I can feel it, and the best exercise to train/ develop this energy. Thank you for helps Smile - Fight - No fear for death - respect the 4 laws of Ki - that's all I think...
David Posted February 16, 2005 Posted February 16, 2005 People with qigong stand better, move better and feel better than people without. All these things apply to Karate. Most qigong is done softly, with no muscular emphasis. Soft practice leads to greater speed when you need it. Here's a qigong practice to start you off. http://www.geocities.com/bgaughr/lifting_sky.htm Do it for a week or two and see what you learn about yourself. If you want, continue the same for a month or two before looking at other methods. If you've had enough of that one, move onto something like "carrying the moon". Google it. Best to do just one practice at a time in the beginning because they all have depths of self-observation and alteration of form to get through to maximise results. It's good stuff. italian_guy Posted February 17, 2005 Posted February 17, 2005 I cross-train Karate and Tai chi chuan (that includes Chi kung at some level) and, even if my karate style already includes some chi kung, I find this cross-training quite beneficial. Give it a try! Poi ci risentiamo....

Night-Dragon Posted February 17, 2005 Author Posted February 17, 2005 ... Here's a qigong practice to start you off. http://www.geocities.com/bgaughr/lifting_sky.htm ... I saw in these exercise the description in the web site. They say things like " move your Qi..." but really I can't move it because I still don't recognize it, I don't feel it, even if I have praticed zhan zhuang poses like embracing tree. Sincerely I can't move Qi because I don't feel it, or if I fell it, I don't know that is Qi. hope to be clear with my poor english grammar Gabriele Smile - Fight - No fear for death - respect the 4 laws of Ki - that's all I think...
David Posted February 18, 2005 Posted February 18, 2005 Ignore all reference to qi. You can disbelieve it. Forget it. Then notice it after a while . Rgds, David ** Censor-O-Meter: 9 **
