Jbone1
Come on guys. Mike Chat, Matt Mullins, and Craig are rooted in Shorei Ryu under Sensei Sharkey. The extreme aspect came in National competitions that have divisions for it. They have their foundation as MA's, yet for the competition and opportunities to land roles and careers in Hollywood they added elements of flash. It's all a part of the world of Martial Arts, why not as a Martial Artist embrace all of it? It's self expression honestly, as Bruce would say. They work hard to learn those moves and believe me it takes work. I can't do most but I can do some and you have to work just as hard as to learning self defense or anything. SevenStar
I'm a thai boxer, and I think XMA is great. They are at the top of their game in what they do. I'd bet money that none of the people bashing them on the net are winning any type of competitions on national and world levels. These guys are. The mistake people make is trying to compare what XMA does to what they (the basher does), and it's not always applicable. However, I'd take an XMA guy to have my back in a fight over many other guys here. Why? They compete HARD, meanind that they are conditioned. They are probably in better shape than most of the people here and are used to pushing themselves anyway. They have attributes that can be used in a fight and have those attributes finely tuned. All of the XMA bashing really needs to be put to rest..
ovine king
less bashing, more training. you do your thing, let them do theirs. i would bet a heck of a lot of money that the XMA guys train way harder than a lot of the guys here, me included. earth is the asylum of the universe where the inmates have taken over.don't ask stupid questions and you won't get stupid answers. battousai16
"However, I'd take an XMA guy to have my back in a fight over many other guys here." ouch, that hurts! that said, we have an XMA place 'round here, and they have as many slackers as they do talented, contidioned people. you wont hear any XMA bashing from me, i'm starting to get into the gymnastics my self. but just cuz they have a hideous mesh uniform dosen't mean they're conditioned and skilled. just the ones in the national and world tournaments... which can be said for any MA division. SevenStar
"However, I'd take an XMA guy to have my back in a fight over many other guys here." ouch, that hurts! hehe... present company excluded. that said, we have an XMA place 'round here, and they have as many slackers as they do talented, contidioned people. Yeah, I'm only referring to the team that trains directly with chat - not all of the offshotts that joined the XMA.

Knifehand007
that said, we have an XMA place 'round here, and they have as many slackers as they do talented, contidioned people. So do most other MA schools. I not saying your being critical. Generally speaking, since i've joined this forum; there has been a lot of style bashing. Whats the Deal? Everyone has different strengths and ways of doing things. People bash TSD, TKD, MTK, XMA...ect, everyone bashes everyone elses style... This has got to stop. There is no perfect style, no perfect person. I like TSD, that doesn't mean i think your style is bogus. It means i like doing things traditionally. If you don't be glad your not a TSD student. But because i'm tradtionally trained, don't think i'm a pushover because your in the next best thing. I was talking to some young green belts (about 11-12 years old), they were fooling around like kids do. One of the cocky ones even told me they could beat me. I told them don't get cocky. I pointed at my belt, i might be a yellow belt, but that only shows what i've learned in TSD. You may know more TSD, but i am older and wiser. Belts are nice, but its up here (points to cranium) that counts. They all looked down and nodded. I told them, i applaud you for achieving your green belt (then i bowed to them), but don't let it get to your head. Same thing goes with styles. You may be in the most Hardcore MA out there, You go to fight me, you may not win; if i were in Hapkido, i would use your engery against you. Each style has strengths and weaknesses, but ultimatly it is the character of each person in the style that proves the effectiveness. battousai16
"So do most other MA schools." yeah, that's what i was getting at. y'know, just as the XMA has conditioned people they have some slackers, too. um, probably not training with mike chat, but... still, i hear ya, right on. aefibird
I admire the XMA guys for their dedication to training and athletic ability. XMA isn't for me, as I'm into MA more for self-defence, but it doesn't mean that I can't admire what they do. Plus, it looks cool and they can do amazing spinning-jumping-super-duper-mega-kicks, which I'll never be able to do in a month of Sundays! "Was it really worth it?
