krzychicano Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 I can also do between 80 and a 100 in two minutes. When I was in the army the most I ever knocked out was 113 in 2 minutes. Needless to say after the PT test it was pukeville for me. What the superior man seeks is in himself; what the small man seeks is in others. - Confucius

martial-athlete Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 The hundred push-up goal is impressive but you may want to ask yourself what it adds to your martial arts specfic skill and training. while 100 push-ups is a great goal it will only build your muscular endurance not your explosiveness...aka speed-strength. If your gola is to train with a sport-specific goal in mind look towards excercises that will help you achieve that goal Kraig Devlin is a former member of the Canadian National Karate Team and the author of the free e-book "The Martial-Athlete's Keys to Athletic Success: Sport-Specific Training Secrets for the Serious Martial Artist" avaliable at Martial-Athlete.com
SevenStar Posted February 7, 2005 Posted February 7, 2005 the thing about MA and fitness in general is that not everyone has fighting or ma specific goals. Actually, in this case though, it can be specific. endurance may be the MA specific skill that he wants. If you are fighting in a ring and lack leg endurance, your legs get wobbly. If you are a grappler, endurance in the chest and tris will be very helpful, making a case for the 100 push up program.
GhostlySykanRyu Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Don't forget...push-ups can be done explosively, I rarely do them slowly. senna_trem- They don't if you do them correctly and in moderation. To condemn the art of another is to condemn your own as well. We all have the same origin.

If your gola is to train with a sport-specific goal in mind look towards excercises that will help you achieve that goal Go down slow , go fast up => train explosiveness and endurance and that are 2 things that you need as a MA (personal opinion) If you want to get to 100 there a many ways. Day # 1 : do 1 push up Day # 2 : do 2 push up's ... Day # 100 : do 100 push up's (WHIEE) Or you can start with sets and reps like 4*15 then 4*20 then 4*25 then pull the sets together 3*33 , 2*50 then 60 + 40 and so on I do now 5*25 push ups (1min rest in between) , if I do them straight after each other I can do 80 - 90 :: Bless me father, for I have just killed quite a few men ::https://www.tricking.be
