CapitalKarate
I need to be able to do 100 or more push ups on my knuckles or finger tips. First knuckles. Whats the best way to achieve this the fastest? And for the sake of curiosity, how many push ups can everyone do? On knuckles or palms or fingertips, doesn't matter how. Shorin Ryuu
In two minutes, I can do between 80-100, depending on how I feel that day. Good, proper military pushups that is. I don't really have them fully incorporated in my workouts, I can just do them from years of previous practice (yuck). That being said though, the best way at getting good at them is just doing them. It's a lame answer, but it's the same as pullups. You just have to do them. There are of course numerous upper body and/or back exercises you can do to supplement the muscle training such as mountain climbers and whatnot, but the best thing is simply repetition. In my crazier days, I used to do them with weights in sets of 40 and gradually decrease the weights (starting with 50, taking 5 pounds off on each set) till I hit zero. By that time, you definately reached total muscle failure. I've lost much of that though as I've focused on other things in terms of workouts since them. SevenStar
here's a program that's been circulating the net for a few years. i've never tried it, but I know people who have, and they've had success with it: http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/Field/4992/100push.html
Bleeding Lion
i used to be able to do 100 straight knuckles push ups on hard floor. imo, the key to progress is the last push ups you make. set yourself some goals, i started with 15. the trick is, wether or not you can complete it, always try to do 1-5 push ups extra. Always try hard-ER. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence thus, is not an act, but a habit. --- Aristotle
Nick_UKWC
I try and do 60 elevated pushups (body parallel to the ground when my elbows are locked) 30 then 20 then 10. I'll add more when I'm able hehe. "...or maybe you are carrying a large vicious dog in your pocket." -Scottnshelly
GhostlySykanRyu
Just curious...why do you HAVE to do 100...is it just a personal goal? I can usually finish 100, and I got 115 once...never tried to go higher really, but it didn't exactly happen overnight. Took a few years of lifting hard and well...doing push-ups every other night. CapitalKarate
two reasons really, one, most traditional karate dojos (from my limited experience and knowledge) require the student to be able to do 100 push ups by the time they get to 1st dan. also, personal goal. iw ant to be able to do 100 push ups, plus how cool is it when you tell your body building friends who can't do 40, that you can do over 100? SevenStar
hwo cool is it when they say they can bench 350, and you can't can't even do 175? There's a tradeoff there. Of course though, the ideal would be to be able to do both.
GhostlySykanRyu
Aye...I wouldn't set any goals just to show off, things like that only lead to a bloated ego...something that pops with a big bang! CapitalKarate
o, nono, showing off isn't a goal or anything, its just a plus. it's like finding your spouse, you want someone you love and want to spend the rest of your life with, and its a plus if they're also very attractive. also having your friends and family amazed or impressed is sort of a motivator. how would you like it if everyone you cared about thought something you worked hard at to achieve was worth nothing and weren't impressed at all with?
