Mtal Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well it does not really effecting my martial arts training, but I keep getting shine spints every time I run. Well I run ever so often. I really have not tried it in like 2 years. My cardio is from martial arts or bike, etc..... but like 2 months ago, I ran a couple of blocks, and my shins started hurting again. I still feel them (maybe since I started up with my martial arts training again). Like I said, day to day, they really dont interfer with anything, but they are sore. Is there anything I can do for this? I would like to start to run again. In fact, I have a chance at a law enforcement job coming up (going thru the process), and I know I would probably have to do some running in training, so I am a little worried. Any advice would be great. Jay Johnson
CapitalKarate Posted January 24, 2005 Posted January 24, 2005 do you stretch and warm up those muscles before you run? Joshua Brehm-When you're not practicing remember this; someone, somewhere, is practicing, and when you meet them, they will beat you.
Mtal Posted January 25, 2005 Author Posted January 25, 2005 Well when I was running more often, yes, but if I remember right, I think it was nagging me a little bit. I do remember back then, I ran on a hard floor, and my shins were killing me for days. Now recently, when I ran about a month ago, it was pretty silly, I was coming home and I just said, let me run home. and since then, I still feel them being sore. Jay Johnson

fangshi Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 Not a doctor but have suffered through shin splits before. One time I was just weeks before a marrithon. Plenty of ice Two or three times a day . And stretching. While sitting straight legged on the ground have someone stretch the foot down and hold and then back and hold. If it gets worse go see a doctor. Anti inflamitories are perscribed often. If it gets better than advil may be enough. Any worse be SURE to get medical attention. Shin splints suck but you probably won't die. We are not so much individual beings as individual points of perception within one immense being.
Mtal Posted January 26, 2005 Author Posted January 26, 2005 I was thinking of seeing a doc too, but just so I know, what would a doc do? Ok I know my shins hurt, he take an xray, give me something to take, pysical therapy? Well I just want an idear. Thanks. Jay Johnson
fangshi Posted January 27, 2005 Posted January 27, 2005 Just a quick thought . Are your shoes new ? Sometimes if your shoes are worn they will cause shin pain when running. We are not so much individual beings as individual points of perception within one immense being.
battousai16 Posted January 27, 2005 Posted January 27, 2005 new shoes are a big thing that a lot of people over look. you can actually only get about 400 miles out of a pair of good shoes (tops), and that's not as much as you think it is. in my -CC> days, that was a summer for me. what's helped shin splints for me lately is to write things with my toes. i put my bare feet flat on the ground and just... write with my big toes or draw designs, or something. builds up the little muscles or something, i dunno. i read it on this forum i think at some time or other and although dubious at the time, it really has helped. i've never gone to the dr. for shin splints, btw, and my shins are fine. BlackBeltHorseRider Posted February 3, 2005 Posted February 3, 2005 ICE! Lots of ice! And I know because I've had these too. Hate them. Put ice on it and keep active. A Christian Karate student~
