Hawkeye Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 I competed in my first tournament last weekend and had a great time. Aside from competing myself, the highlights were watching the higher belts square off with people of equal skill and giving it their all. We are fortunate to have several members of the national team in our family of dojos, and their matches were especially exciting. Their matches were veritable clinics in sparring. Most of the lower belts were watching these fights with their eyes wide and their mouths open - I certainly was! The best part about it all is I'm more motivated than ever to train. If solid training leads to that kind of skill, then I'm in. So, if you practice a martial art and get a chance to go to a tournament...GO. It's worth the price of admission. (P.S. - I actually did win a couple of medals. A silver in kata and a bronze in sparring. I can't wait for the next one.) Every timely action will bring results ... Without difficulty. Every untimely endeavor will fail ... If the moment is premature or if the right moment is missed. - The Tree Poem
Master Jules Posted January 20, 2005 Posted January 20, 2005 Sounds like you had more than just fun......glad to hear it.....keep going, and watching, and asking questions......youll meet lots of new people......see lots of new things.....enjoy !!! ~Master Jules......aka "The Sandman""I may be a trained killer......but Im really a nice guy"

searcher Posted January 21, 2005 Posted January 21, 2005 Congrats on the medals. As with the other posts, tourneys are a great learning experience and can help you grow as a martial artist. "let those who shed blood with me be forever known as my brother."
EvilTed Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 Dijita, We are hosting the first San Francisco open knockdown championships in June. All styles are welcome but we are fighting Kyokushin rules. Fighters are coming from Japan, and all over the US. You are more than welcome. Osu! ET
Dijita Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 EvilTed, Thanks for the invite. That would be fantastic. Unfortunately I do not have the skill to fight in an open tournament like that. Someday though. If you are fighting in this tournament, I wish you luck! I will more than likely fly to Los Angeles to fight in the Freshman tournament. I'm not sure if you have heard of it. I believe it will be in October, later this year. Osu!
pineapple Posted January 25, 2005 Posted January 25, 2005 Congradulations! Unfortunately, in my first tournament, I got defeated without my opponents even trying hard. What works works
