Hudson Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 I have been looking at ways to trim down my body fat, and of course the first thing that came up was Atkins. Now, Atkins I am not too keen on - cutting out carbs seems like a dumb idea. But anyone with thoughts on this please add whatever information you can! So then I looked at CKD - Cyclical Ketosis Diet. If you are not familiar with it, I will give you a brief synopsis - During the week, carbs are restricted to around 30 per day or less. In the weekends, Carbs become around 75% of your daily intake and you "load up" on carbs for the week. It's supposed to be really good for cutting to the lower body fat ranges. Right now I'm pretty old school with my weight management - calories up, calories down, carbs in the morning, protein at night. The game of chess is much like a swordfight; you must think before you move.
SevenStar Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 I personally prefer the old school way. The body's primary energy source is the carb while you are exercising. next is fat, then protein. (while resting, 70 % of the atp production comes from fats, so the order is fats, carbs, protein) you are increasing your secondary source, but completely cutting the primary... Also, I've known people who stopped their carb-free lifestyles. Guess what happened? They gained the weight back.
Omega14 Posted December 29, 2004 Posted December 29, 2004 Old school is the way to go. I think a lot of the "fad" diets are one time solutions that are not sustainable. the low carb diet may not be good to one's body, as the brain needs carbs to function.
aefibird Posted January 1, 2005 Posted January 1, 2005 I'd say a sensible diet with a balanced intake of carbs, protiens and a small amount of fats is the way to go. Eat lots of fruit & veg and drink plenty of water too and you can't go wrong! IMO, a LOT more research would have to be done about the benefits and hazards of any such diet like the one you mentioned (CKD) before I would be tempted to embark on such a program. If you want to reduce your carbs then at least make sure that the ones you do eat are worthwhile - brown rice, wholewheat pasta, potatoes, wholemeal bread etc, rather than refined carbs and carb-based food with a lot of fat, such as cakes and biscuits. Good luck to you for any weight-loss program that you embark on. I know how hard it can be to cut those excess pounds - dead easy to gain them, but hard work to lose them!! "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." The Beautiful South - The Rose of My CologneSheffield Steelers!
