Hi Laurie,

Test!!!! Then work with her as much as you can in the next month to get her to pass. I just had a similar experience with one of my friends he had been out with an injury. I worked with him before and after class and after class. It really paid off he did real well on the test and passed as did I. We all push each other at this point.

We have a group of us all due to grade for Shodan together. All for one one for all, we plan on dragging each other kicking and screaming all the way to grading. :D

Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.

Hmm, tough choice. If one of my students came to me with that question I would tell them to test because who knows what's going to happen in a month? But I woudl understand if they want to wait and woudl respect that. If it was me however, I would wait. Red belt is a tough test in our school. It's soooo much easier to test when you have a buddy testing with you. And it's only a month.

You're going to do the right thing no matter which you choose. Your friend should appreciate that this is a tough choice and respect what you choose.

Good luck!

Thanks slomo :). I'm leaning toward not testing. I was supoosed to go to class tonight, but I blew it off. My school has a min requirement for classes, and I'm just under it, but they are letting me test anyway. But I know if I don't show up this week, things would change (they won't let me test).

Since going back to my old TKD dojang, I am re-testing for my red belt. I did make fast friends with someone in the beginning of the summer. We have been best friends in MA ever since. We give each other support, work on stuff before/after class, we help each other out when we get in the "slump," ect. We kept telling each other that we will test for red together. To be moral support for each other. One reason she wanted me to test with her is because she never had her red and I did .... among other reasons.

I got the "ok" to test next saturday. She was out for two weeks due to an injury and she moved. So, she can't test. I saw her tonight, and she asked me if I was testing. I said yes. She said that she couldn't. I felt really bad for her.

Anyways, I was thinking of putting off my test till January (when she tests). She gave me the "wanna wait for me" guilt thing, but she said that she didn't mind if I tested now, and that I should. But I feel like I am betraying her (if I go through with this test and not wait) :(

What should I do?

Test Lauri, you can still support her come January :karate:

Just two considerations...

I agree with those that tells you to test and then help your friend with the test, also because if this test is somehow harder then the others if you do the test now, she can then benefit from your experience. Second consideration you have to ask yourself if you were in her situation and she was in your what do you think it would happen?

So if you blow off class then they won't allow you to test, thereby taking the decision out of your hands. Very passive / aggresive. C'mon, make a decision and stand by it and quit trying to tiptoe around everyone elses thought / feelings. You'll feel a hundred times better by making up your own mind and sticking to it.

I did. I'm testing. I went to class today. My friend told me to "PAY NOW, darn it! Then you have to test." At least she gave me a straight answer this time LOL. I paid for the test. I want to thank you all for your help :)
