I would like to start learning martial arts, as i have just got a very large interest in it lately. But im not sure which one i should get into, there are just so many!

Thats why i need some input as to which i should start with.

Ive been doing a lot of studying of all the different ones, so ill probably know the one that you suggest.

Im 17, about 6'0, medium build, semi flexibe, quick feet, quick hands

Ive been in boxing for about 2 and a half years now, id say im pretty good. Really quick. I learned a little bit of kickboxing as well, but just basic kicks. I really want to learn more than 'jab, cross, hook, uppercut'... heh yeah what a low inventory.

Oh one last thing, Im up for anything but karate, unless you think it is the perfect solution. I want to learn something other than karate though....

Thanks a lot for any input....

My advice is to go try a few different styles and see which one you like the most. Learning MA is more than about the style. YOU need to like the instructor, the school, the other students and enjoy what you are learning.

So I say, go try some. Which ever style you enjoy the most will be the right one!

Good luck!

Why you think you will not like karate?

I did kickboxing before karate. Karate has a much wider range of techniques then kickboxing.. it includes all strikes (punches, open hand, elbows, knees, kicks)

and also some grappling and ground fighting, it is quite a complete system... Of course there are other complete fighting system as well in the market (kempo, jujitsu, JKD, etc...) but I would not discard karate.

Kickboxing is made up from karate. maybe you should try judo

What hurts you but doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.

After doing a bit of research, tae kwon do, hapkido catch my interest a lot. I took my first class tonight, they seem very friendly, but yet also serious.

I also want to learn Judo or Aikido a lot too, I think maybe i should try it out before paying loads of money, ill take your advice. That would be a good combination, I bet. Aikido/Judo and TKD/HKD. But i dont think I have enough time for both, i mean with school and work and all. Plus thats a lot of money for both, wow.

man... dont think little of boxing, its one of the best out there. i think the next step would be muay thai- the ultimate striking art.

or, you could go to the other half of martial arts: grappling. naturally id recommend bjj, wrestling, or maybe judo.
