Little Dragon Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 I do JKD Concepts,i learn under John Ferguson,he learned under Paul Vunak. JKD is a style,a style of fighting xD..its just not a specfic one like gung fu,karate, taekwondo, etc. Back when Bruce taught it,it was meant to help u adapt to your fighter.Bruce never thought there was a superior style,so he wanted to adapt to which style was the best for the moment.Nowadays masters have added things like BJJ and other stuff like Pauls RAT program.Which isnt making it formless or shapeless...its jsut making it into a brutal street fighting tatics. ''I know what your thinking.........did I shoot you 3 times? or did I shoot you 472 times?''
MenteReligieuse Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 So what you are learning is a hybrid MA with JDK concepts. Pretty cool.
Little Dragon Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 we also do MMA and NHB since my instrctor is into the whole UFC and K1 things, also hes trained with a few fighters from there when he was learning jkd during his younger days xD ''I know what your thinking.........did I shoot you 3 times? or did I shoot you 472 times?''
47MartialMan Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Now days I see JKD being taught as a name of a style, but I also see the JKD concepts being used with other styles, this is where it gets tricky. We use some of the JKD concepts, but in no way do we claim to teach or even train JKD as a style and I think this is where some are claiming to teach JKD when really they are just using the great concepts. I know their are legit schools who can rightfully claim to teach these concepts as a whole, but be careful selecting something that says JKD taught here. Because, like anything else, it gets political and exploited.
Drunken Monkey Posted November 23, 2004 Author Posted November 23, 2004 .....and the interesting thing i find, is that only ONE person can claim any 'proper' jkd lineage..... post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."

Drunken Monkey Posted November 24, 2004 Author Posted November 24, 2004 read. that's why god gave us eyes. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
Mu Ryuk Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Where? Eyes dont see it. LittleDragon, top of page two of the thread. Passion transcends pain.
italian_guy Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 So what you are learning is a hybrid MA with JDK concepts. Pretty cool. Yes, this is basically what's behind the label JKD. I did JKD for 1 month only (then the school closed for lack of students) combined with kali/escrima, it was a nice style, a sort of MMA geared for self-defence (not sport competitions) basically they were teaching, (in that first months), kicking and punching basics, escrima basics, case study self-defence. About lineage the instructor was part of an organization (AKEA) recognised by Dan Inosanto (it was started by an italian Inosanto disciple), who is well entitled to teach JKD I think.
