Ironberg
I've prided myself with having resiliant knees in the past. However, in college I'm taking a weight-lifting Phy-Ed for credit. Though it's pretty elementary, you can push yourself the way you need to. About the next month we were supposed to be doing lunges. Having never done them before, I tried for a slightly challenging option, lunges with two 45lb. dumbells. It was still fairly light, but there was a problem a day after me second time doing these: My left knee became grossly sore - and I think it's from when I almost slipped on one of the lunges. Though there's been some progress towards improvement, I especially feel the pain in the mornings going DOWN stairs (not so much going up them). I have an amatuer fight this Saturday - and it's going to be in the evening, so I'm going to be good. However, I'm never doing lunges again - squats, leg press, nothin' else. However, I'm looking back and thinking that I was pretty stupid, especially since the weight was about twice what everyone else was doing. HumanTyphoon
Well all's said, you can learn from your mistakes. Well hopefully that knee does feel better and good luck on that fight! Jinxx0r
Going down stairs actually puts more stress on your knees than going up (it's like 7 times your body weight going down stairs, as opposed to 2 times your body weight going up). It doesn't suprise me that it feels worse going down the stairs. Lunges are a good excercise if you do the correctly. Also, just like any excercise; if you've never done it before, ease yourself into it and find your limits. like the other guy said, you learned from your mistake (but don't give up on lunges, as they are a good excercise). ninjanurse
Sorry about the knee. Lunges can be hard on your knees-especially if you have problems with a misaligned knee cap. Ditto for going down stairs! Hopefully you just strained it and it will get better with rest (yes, I am actually suggesting something that seems totally foreign to a martial artist but....I have first hand knowledge with doing stupid things to your body!). Good luck! Rich67
You may have torn the meniscus in your knee (worst case scenario). But there isn't a way to tell until you get an MRI. Be careful on it until it feels 100%. Any hardcore exercise on it when it isn't fully recovered may result in damage to other parts of your knee. Rest, Ice and all that other good stuff. Kreisi
i have twisted my right knee two times, second time it happened i had to twist it back again with my hands. it happened in the summer and sometimes when i go down the stairs i feel pain ( especially in the morning). What hurts you but doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.
