Briefly state what your resolution is for 2002 with regards to your martial arts training. It may be as simple as what your goal or intentions are for the year or to correct a negative trait or habit you've developed during the course of your training.

Mine? To train harder and not to give up so easily ...to be less critical of my ability.

To be a little better each day.

To finally RELAX!!! the shoulders... :bigwink:

Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.

Hmmm, my New Years Resolutions towards the arts are to gain weight, and to train as hard as I can, to meet and break all expectations of me and to generally give it my absoloute best.

Well there is a kata I have not learned yet which as a shotokan stylist I should allready know, but don't having a bit of an odd club background.

We did Rohai as our black belt kata. I know jutte, jiin, jion as well but have not learned bassai dai.

My goal for the year is to learn bassai dai. It is a rather odd feeling to be a black belt in shotokan and not know bassai.

I would like to train harder...and eat better hopefully to lose weight and drop another weight class.

REMEMBER IT IS NOT HOW HARD YOU TRAIN

BUT HOW YOU TRAIN HARD

Honor is the most important thing a man has once you lose it it is gone forever

Bassai Dai is a great kata!

It always fascinates me to see how different styles can do the same kata so differently (I recently saw some Shotokan practisioners doing it and it was barely recognisable)

My goal for the year is to increase my fitness so I don't keel over at end of a 6 hour grading. To ensure I train to the best of my ability with the gifts I have, and not to be disheartened when things don't come so easily

i wanna be able to do a full splits and rep kick above my head by the end of this year

i can kick pretty well but i just cant rep kick, i need more strength in my glute or as me and my buddies call it "ass strength"

You can boo me if you want, You know I'm right!

Yes Piastre I think one of the reasons I have put off doing Bassai Dai is that I am kind of in awe of it. So far I have seen like 11-12 different variations of it though. All are recognizable just a bit different.

Boy do I remember the all day grading affairs. I really appreciated it when my club started doing some of the actual pass/fail decisions in class before test and doing shorter test days.

Prodigy-Child .... you can add that one to my resolution also (full splits) , I can rep kick pretty well. Suggestions besides "ass strength" (cool term) :brow: ... work on your core muscle group (abs and back muscles) and quads they all work together for the rep kicking.

All in all this thread is going well guys ....Just don't forget what you posted here and keep up the good work!
