WhiteBelt
10 lbs is useless. Get more weight. BTW, punching improves punching power too.
MenteReligieuse
Perform katas and drills with the weights in ur hands? (don't try to punch full speed with weights though, just slowly perform the movements)...or get heavier weights. You can work your shoulders well with 10lbs weights. Take the weights in your hands, and let your arms down normally. Then Slowly raise them so that they extend to each side of your body, horizontaly (a cross or 'T' shape) then slowly bring them back down (8-15 reps). You can also bring your arms forward when fully extended. Dunno if it will bring power to your punch, but its something simple you can do to strenghten those shoulders. 10 lbs usually does it at first, but you will quickly need heavier weights. Plus you can combine this exercise with forarm curls.
TheDevilAside
Those 10lbs will last you for about a month, at most. All I can reccomend is getting heavier weights. "If you're going through hell, keep going." - Sir Winston Churchill
Rich67
Listen, 10lb weights are not "useless". All you have to do is up the amount of reps you do, and you can still get a good workout. Granted, you will need to invest in a pair of 20's and 15's to really make an impact. But it is healthy to workout with ANY kind of resistance. DokterVet
10 pounds aren't useless, but you won't be able to increase your strength like you would if you could gradually increase the weight you are working with. 22 years oldShootwrestlingFormerly Wado-Kai Karate
ROB
There's a lot you can do with your 10lb weights and a bit of imagination. I've seen video's of Steve Morris (You've probably never heard of him, but he's a top British martial artist), working out with what look like 3 or 4 kg weights. Obviously your not going to be doing your standard lifts, but then your not a weight lifter are you ? Holding your weights, run thru a series of specific and non specific drills, ie punches, imaginary pulls, ie thai & grappling, step up's, jack knife sit up's, push up's on the dumbells, squat crouches, ground work push off's, the list is end less. Visulize an opponent at all times as your running the drills, set rep or time targets, and go from one exercise to the next with minmum rest. Hudson
Seriously, if 10 pounds was worthless, they'd only sell dumbells starting at 15! Just think to yourself.... what if I do 50 crunches normally. But now, I do 50 crunches with 10 or 20 pounds more? You will have to crank out some higher reps to really make a difference with 10 lbs, this is true. But adding 10 pounds to cross training, that will do you good. The game of chess is much like a swordfight; you must think before you move.
