what? no! and what? no! no ab exercises will help your gut, only CARDIO workouts will. that means getting your heart rate up. running, biking, jump rope... stuff like that.

Yes, as well as abdominal excercises such as crunches, you need to add cardio workouts to your fitness programme. This could include jogging/running, power walking, swimming, skipping, cycling, stair climbing etc etc. Training in cardion will help you to lose weight from around your stomach and hip area.

No, I've not heard that wearing tight elastic or dresses would affect your physical structure or build. However, what you eat will affect your build. If you are trying to lose weight from your stomach then you need to cut out fatty and sugary food from your diet. Eat more fruit and vegetables, lean meat and carbohydrates such as boiled/steamed rice (not fried), pasta and baked or boiled potatoes. Cut out sugary drinks and have plenty of water each day.

Good luck! :)

Just my two cents to the previous reply, if you really want to lose some excess from around the stomache, the diet needs to be tighter, carb's have to be low glycemic, no wheat or refined rice.

Use veg's and fruit as your main source of carb's, even then go for apples and pears rather than oranges and bannna's.

Lots of greens.

If you need rice and bread, eat Brown rice and sprouted wheat bread, ( this is'nt a contradiction sprouted wheat is quite different from your normal breads) or rye bread.

Also cut out your milk products, eat fish, turkey chicken, in small amounts as protien source, with almonds & seeds and olive or flax oils, fot your fats.

Lots of water.

It may sound a bit over the top, but it's very healthy, and will have you ripped the bone in no time

If wearing a dress would get rid of my gut I would consider it! :P

I don't think the guys at work would appreciate it. :o (hairy legs!!!!)

I've done sit ups, crunches, leg lifts, diets still the only six pack I will ever obtain will be at the local supermarket.

Some people just can't get the washboard ab look. I know I have one somewhere under there you just can't see it........

Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.

anyone can get them, its just harder for some ppl.

Note that todays body culturists are going further and further away from human's natural physique. I would link a video of a GROSSLY muscled man lifting a 800 pound weight (not over his head mind you) if it wasn't linked to a errr...less than respectable web site :P . Just inhuman

One thing taoism teaches you is to accept your nature. If you are not prone to having a six-packs. Accept it, don't go against nature. Your abs are still as strong.

And about those men and women going through hard core diets and stuff just to lose their little fat around the waist. Well if it works good for you, if not, YOU ARE STILL BEAUTIFULL! (yeah, I guess men can be beautifull too). Ok this is just too pretty i'm gonna cry

First off, please, continue to wear the tight dresses!

I think the other replies are pretty much right on. Losing fat, regardless of where its located, is a matter of burning more calories than you take in.

Building/strengthening muscles through weight training or ab work will not directly have much of an impact on fat loss. (They are great for building strength)

You need to either increase your aerobic workout, lower your calorie intake, or do a combination of both. Especially when it comes to diet, make small changes and see if you make progress. Don't expect the fat to disappear in a week, but if you go a month and don't see any difference, adjust a little more.

Once you do the above and drop some of the fat, you'll be able to better see the benefits from your ab work.
