Knuckles

Randy

Recommended Posts

I was at karate this evening and i was just doing some warm ups before lesson started. I started doing some knuckle pushups and one of the black belts aproached me and suggested i do the pushups only on my 2 main knuckles on each hand since they are the ones that deliver the most force in a punch. Fair enough. Then he goes on to talk about doing the pushups in sand to further harden the knuckles. Makes sence. THEN he told me if i punched a bag bare hand until i wore the skin off my knuckles it would grow back stronger.

So im just wondering what you guys think about punching my knuckles raw? and if its worth my while how long would they take to heal up?

Cheers

I guess it depends why you are doing it and how far you are willing to go. I have to go to my job the next day and it does not befit my role to have huge calloused knuckles (but even if I didn't have that job I still wouldn't do it).

What happens if your work building catches on fire and the escape is jammed and the only way to survive is to punch through it??? Then you will wish you had big calloused knuckles

I think if the escape was jammed, I wouldnt punch through it, as it would be really stupid (no offence), I would probably front kick it, and if that dosnt work a few times, ill step back about 10 feet and run as fast as I can to drop my whole body weight on it. BAM! lol

Anyways, on topic, unless you have samurais with wooden armours coming to your house to ask for protection money, and you have to punch through their armour and beat them up to send them away(like in the old days) I dont think its nessesary to do that, besides if you are a musician or something, itll slow down you finger dexterity.

Well since I work on the ground floor and my office has two blooming great windows which open up fully I would be a bit stupid trying to punch my way through a door.

Of course I may regret the decision if ever I get buried alive in a coffin and find I can't punch my way out of there!

hi Im a bit of a traditionalist and what i have found about knuckle toughning has proven to be effective. In goju we try to toughen many parts of the body including knuckles, fingertips, chins, forearms and so on. I have seen improvements in the power that I can deliver without pain to myself. But it is a personal journey depends on what you want to do. If you have the toughest knuckles in the world and are successfully knocked out or chocked you loose. So do not make it to much of you woukout.
