Jerry
That's the only problem with winter, it stops you from doing extra training, like running in the mornings. It stopped me, but that is why I then joined the gym here at work. I also cycle and do mountain biking, which are also good sports to help strengthen the legs and burn some of that unused fat. But KBwanabee, you have been in the sport for 2 months now u say .... You will start to see a difference slowly but surely now. I suggest that you take a checkpoint now and then again in say 4 months from now and then again after 6 months. You'll see a difference. And don't forget to Enjoy the Kickboxing!! ninjanurse
Running in the morning really does ramp up your metabolism, and from what I understands boosts fat burning (the logic being you haven't eaten anything in a few hours, and therefore only have fat on hand to burn) Good point but may I add that it is very important that you wait an hour after working out before eating so you get maximum fat burning, however you need to eat after that one hour or your body will stop burning fat and start burning muscle. The more muscle you have the more calories you burn so keep your muscle at all cost! To build muscle you need PROTEIN so increase your intake to at least 1.5 gm per pound of body weight per day-divided into 6 meals. For example I weigh 113 pounds and each meal I eat consists of 20 gms protein and 20 grams carbs (about 120gms of each per day). Your metabolism will step up as long as you are doing the cardio. Also drink a lot of water to flush the by products of metabolism out. Hudson
"It's getting dark and cold out." No offense, but unless it's snow and ice, I'm running. Wear sweatclothes. I guaruntee after a minute of good running the temperature is fine. And I know eating early may seem like a sin, but eating breakfast will definately help you lose weight. Set your alarm clock up extra early, make some time, have something healthy (Not coffee and doughnuts.) like muesli, fruits, nuts, etc; Ultimately there is a difference between talking on these forums and going out and training - and I think I'll go do some training right now The game of chess is much like a swordfight; you must think before you move. CloudDragon
Don't forget to add vitamin supplements, especially if you have just started your diet. The body tends to go into a survival mode, thinking that you are in a stress mode and trying to store extra calories because of the calories and nutrients burned during workouts. It was just the thing that I needed to jumpstart my weight loss. A Black Belt is just a white belt that don't know when to quit!

jarrettmeyer
I'm on week 5, and I've only lost 2 pounds! (I weighed 250.5lb this morning.) For me, it is just a pain in the butt to lose weight. I've got my MA 3x per week. I make sure to stretch every day and practice my techniques at least 2 other nights. I don't know any kata yet, but when I do, I hope to start practicing those every morning & night. I've cut my diet coke intake in half and replaced that with water. I take carrots and shredded wheat to work with me so I can snack through the day. I find that I'm a lot less hungry, and I eat a much smaller lunch and dinner. I don't eat breakfast, but it sounds like that's something that I need to start doing. For what it's worth, I *feel* much much much better! I'm more awake during the day. I sleep better at night. My kicks are getting higher. I can do 3x more pushups and 2x more crunches than 5 weeks ago. Why, oh why, isn't the weight going away!?! Beiner
fat weighs less the muscle. I find scales absolutley meaningleass, buy a tapemeasurer and measure your waist now and A month from now. Youll see a difference
CloudDragon
Beiner is right, weight is not a good measure of progress in a diet. As far a supplements, Get a multivitamin that has a good coverage of many different vitamins, note, cost does not play a big factor in this. Read the labels and you will find the generics offer the same stuff cheaper than other brands. I personally add ginseing and L-carotine for energy and fat metaboism. I also use other assorted vitamins like C and E to boost my immune system as I am in the medical field and can't seem to get away from sick people! Do some research and find out which supplements work for your specific goals, just remember go slow, not everything will work for you, add or change one or two things a month and see if there is any benefit from them and most of all be patient.
