Losing weight !!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have just started Kickboxing (about 2 months ago) and although i have noticed a bit of weight loss i am looking for ways to maximise results. I am 6ft tall and weigh 14st 4lb i have lost about 4 lb in 2 months but i really want to loose the belly and get ripped. I used to do weight training so my arms and chest are fairly toned but i am looking to sort out my stomach and feel that 2 2hr sessions a week will not be enough. In terms of diet i dont eat breakfast but i have an apple at about 9am and then have sandwiches for luch then a fairly substancial dinner, but i must confess i do let loose at weekends and have the odd takeout. I dont drink anything but diet sugar free drinks and the daily cup of cofee. Any suggestions or extra training i can do to help me shed the pounds and become stronger would be much appreciated.

First off, I would advise you not to skip breakfast. Breakfast should be your biggest and most nutrient-dense meal of the day to provide you essential energy all day long. You should taper off the meal size as the day goes on, with a very modest dinner. Eating a big dinner can cause you to gain fat, since those unused carbs can go right to your belly as you sleep. Also, drink water.

You should try and get in cardio exercise for a minimum of 30 minutes 5-6 days a week ideally. Plus, start drinking water. It will help to keep your body fuller feeling, it will help flush foods through you. In addition, try eating the highest fiber foods you can find. If you're having sandwiches at lunch, make sure they're balanced with high fiber bread (over 3g/slice) and that there's not too much meat and that the meat is lean. Don't add fatty dressings to them... instead try adding more tomato or something more 'wet' for texture.

I lost over 50 lbs not too long ago and I did it by following Weight Watchers. I'm in Canada, but you can get info online and actually WW UK has a men's program and men's message boards for support. You might want to check that out too.

I agree with Rich, though... Breakfast and Lunch should make up most of your caloric intake for the day.

Thanks for the replies, I agree i should eat breakfast but I just cant face eating that early. Maybe i should have a bigger lunch and slim down dinner. I am going to try and get more cardio as i am about to turn my garage into a mini gym i have free weights and am going to put up a heavy bag. I will keep you posted. P.s. anyone got any sugestions what a good target weight for myself should be I must stress i am a big frame with broad sholders and fairly big arms but i am definitely a touch over weight.

Drink plenty of water - cut out the diet pop. New research in the UK has shown that the sweeteners in diet drinks can actually 'switch off' the bodies feelings of fullness, which can lead to overeating.

Also, diet drinks can contain chemical which can trigger asthma and lung problems.

Plus, water is much better for you anyway!

I'd suggest that you start having breakfast. I used to hate eating breakfast - I couldn't face eating when I'd only just got up. However, I trained myself to start getting up slightly earlier each day, so that I'd been awake longer by the time I came to have breakfast.

Fill up on fruit and vegetables, as well as complex carbohydrates like wholemeal bread, wholemeal pasta and brown rice.

If you have sugar in your coffee then try to ditch that, as even small differences to a persons eating habits can make big changes.

If you're really into takeaways then try to minimise the 'damage' by choosing healthier options, such as boiled instead of fried rice, chicken tikka instead of cream-based curry sauces, pasta instead of cheesy pizza, etc etc.

Good luck with your weight loss!

AE: I have asthma, and I (sadly enough) love diet sodas. I also noticed I have been having nighttime asthma recently, and I HAVE been drinking more soda than usual.....I wonder now if the two may be connected. Did you see this info in an article somewhere or can you post a link? Is it the Phenylalinine? (sp?) Thanks!

Definately a no no on the breakfast.

Get a good healthy carb-filled breakfast. (Not sugars or things like that.. carbs from whole grains and such).

If you really want to help your weight loss, run in the morning. Like, early, early morning, as early as you can. It will help kick up your metabolism for the day.

Assuming you're on the traditional 3 meals a day, your lunch should be pretty much even of fats to carbs to proteins. Then for dinner, have some whiting fish, chicken, or tuna. If you feel the need to snack during the day, grab something HEALTHY. Don't snack on potato chips when you could just grab an apple. Cut calories. Log them on fitday.com. I love that website.

You need to feed your metabolism to get it burning faster.

Try eating every 3 hours throughout the day-meals that consist of protien and carbs 50/50. In addition you should do a minumum of 20 minutes of cardio at least 3 times a week. If you start losing too much fat-increase your carbs not your protein. I ususally take in 20-25 grams of carbs and protein with each of my six meals and I weigh 113 lbs (and am quite lean).

I am a bit wary about eating more as i was always told you need to use up more calories than u take in and so i try not to eat loads. But i take your point on speeding up my metabolism. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to do this without eating loads.
