I'm a skinny guy, always have been, but since I started cutting out the rubbish in my diet and exercising and doing Karate I seem to have lost even more weight rather than build myself up.

I'm concerned because I've noticed I can see my ribs quite clearly when i look int he mirror...I've not noticed this before. So my question is how can I get fitter and build my muscles up without getting scrawnier and bonier? When i get hit during Karate I really feel it because I've so little body fat but I'm also worried about the visual side of things.....I didn't realise I'm lost the weight, I actually thought I'd bulked up a little.

Like I said, I've always been skinny, I'm currently 6'2" and only about 150lbs (about 11st).

Should I not bother cutting down on fats and just eat what I want as I'm exercising and burning some off? I've stopped eating crisps, mcDonalds, fizzy drinks and other rubbish like that. I'm not a big eater so I can't eat loads of meals or really big meals.

Advice would be good, guys.

well. you have to eat more calories if you want to gain weight. Calorie rich foods that are healthy are somewhat hard to find. You could try to eat more cheeses along with your meats. Eat more starch as well. That's about all you can really do.

Quick question, how old are you? Because it might just be a "stage".. my cousin was extremely skinny and 'frail' until he was around 18, then his body changed pretty drastically and now he benches 250. Without steroids or supplements, mind you :P He's just a big guy now (not fat.. but big).

you could try the whole fish thing. fish fats are pretty healthy for you if you are trying to gain a pound or two the healthy way.

:D

you should remember the basic concept of gaining wieght. you have to store more than you burn off. if you burn 2000 calories a day, eat 2500.

i really would try to stay away from foods that have saturated fat and sugar else is fair game.

if you are really serious, talk to your doc. ask him if he could prescribe about a month supply of steroids. despite what you have heard steroids arent that bad for you. like most things you must not abuse them, like dumb people do. steroids will increase your bodies ability to gain muscle mass and after you stop taking them, your metabolism will slow down. and you will gain more weight.

talk to your doc before you do anything this serious though. he will know what to do.

the funny thing is that i know im wrong and i know your right, yet you keep argueing like it will change my mind. you should really know, you dont have to be right to win:)

I'm in my mid twenties :/

If I do put weight on it just seems to go on my gut, but even taht rarely happens. I just don't seem to be able to gain it.

Start eating healthy and lift weights. Get a gym membership (make sure they don't only have machines) and just start lifting. If I were you I'd stay away from steroids for the time being. Yeah, they're not that bad for you, but they're still bad for you.

I did start eating healthy 3-4 months ago which is part of the problem i think. I have also joined a gym (but only use machines while I get used to it). I have noticed slight improvement in the muscles on my arms, chest and legs but I'm still far too skinny. Like I said I can see my ribs and this is not good for a guy. I can't use weights to build the rib area can I (it's just below my pecs)?

in a way you can. if you really bulk up your stomach it will tale the sight of your ribs.

do you have a six pack or anything. if you buil the muscle it might look a little sightly.

To gain lean mass, increase your caloric intake until you are gaining 0.5 - 1 pound a week. You can use https://www.fitday.com to count calories.

Find a good weight lifting routine. Use a lot of compound movements with free weights (like bench press, squat, deadlift). The best range for hypertrophy is going to be 6-8 reps, MAYBE pushing it to 10, but no more. Don't get suckered into "feeling the burn." That's just lactic acid which has nothing to do with strength or size increases. Try https://www.wannabebig.com for advice and forums on weightlifting, bulking, diets, etc.
