Exponential Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 Yet another workout question from me. When I lifted wieghts with my dad last summer, I was told I had to rest a day or so in between the wieght lifting so that the muscles would grow. Is this the same with pushups, or is it okay to do them everyday? On a related note about wieght lifting. For pure strength more so then pure bulk, is fewer reps/more wieght or more reps/less wieght more effective? Maddwraph Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 someone told me that weights when u get used to them, u do them everysday. someone else told me push ups u can do everyday becasue they do not require as much force. i guess as long as ur body is not tired, u can do them, im not an expert on this though. Im brasilian, but live in the united states. Really enjoying martial arts.
JimmyRipp Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 On a related note about wieght lifting. For pure strength more so then pure bulk, is fewer reps/more wieght or more reps/less wieght more effective? For pure strength, you should concentrate on heavier weights with low reps (5-8 rep sets with the last rep being an all-out effort). Most people would recommend that you perform compound movements that work several muscles at once (things like squats, deadlifts, benches, pullups, etc.). Also, you might want to read up on 'periodization' schedules used by bodybuilders to cycle heavy workouts with lighter ones. The basic theory is that your body will eventually get used to whatever it is you throw at it, so choosing low reps/heavy weights will someday lose it's effectiveness. If you cycle in some lighter weight/higher rep workouts, this may actually help you in the long run.
