Exponential Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 What type of workout will help keep shots to the lower ribs from taking your breath away and generally hurting so bad. And what about that spot just above the abs, but just below the chest that also makes you lose your breath? dear john Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 take a stick and hit your ribs. do this every day forever. dont do it too hard, never enough to make a visible bruise. only do it once a day. eventually you will build a good calciums deposits and hve strong ribs. the place above the abs and below the chest is called the solar plexus and strengthening that takes basic stomach exercises. the funny thing is that i know im wrong and i know your right, yet you keep argueing like it will change my mind. you should really know, you dont have to be right to win:)
Samurai Shotokan Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Umm strenghening your lower ribs wouldnt do much. Just feel your ribs just a little push makes them go into you. Trust me it HURTS when you get punched there I got nailed last week and I couldnt breathe for a good 2 minutes and I had some slight pain the rest of the week thereand as for the solar plexus you can do the basic sit ups and leg raises but its a pressure point area so you cant really condition it 28 movies, 50 years Godzilla is King of the Monsters"nothing like a good workout" Paul Pheonix
Rich67 Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 (edited) The only way to condition this area is to work your abs. The rectus abdominus covers this area and a strong muscle can help reduce the impact to the area. However, regardless of how well conditioned it may be, a strong blow still has the ability to crack ribs, no matter HOW much you do. As far as "Dear John"... -take a stick and hit your ribs. Uhhhh..... how big a stick? -do this every day forever. Talk about dedication! -dont do it too hard, never enough to make a visible bruise. -only do it once a day. -eventually you will build a good calciums deposits and hve strong ribs. ??? Calcium deposits are only formed if bones are broken or usually in ball and sockey joints due to repetitive use syndrome. Are you saying you are actually breaking the ribs?? Please...don't do that... -the place above the abs and below the chest is called the solar plexus and strengthening that takes basic stomach exercises. While it is true you can lessen the vulnerability of the solar plexus with strong abs, you cannot strengthen the plexus itself. It is a protrusion at the base of the sternum wrapped with nerves, and is cartilage/bone- not a muscle... Please, before you post, know what you are talking about before you cause some gullible people to actually take your advice. Slamming a stick into your gut daily for the rest of your life is not the answer. Let's be responsible here... Edited September 30, 2004 by Rich67 Mixed Martial Artist
dear john Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 he is right about therib thing. no matter how strong your rib bones are, it wont do much unless you have the body muscle tightness to back them up. but it will prevent them from being broken if you were ever to be hit with that force. the funny thing is that i know im wrong and i know your right, yet you keep argueing like it will change my mind. you should really know, you dont have to be right to win:)
dear john Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 dude when you hit a bone with a hard object you are creating tiny fractures in the bone. AND YES I AM IN A SENSE BREAKING MY BONES. but if you do it hard enough it will cause a big bruise, internal bleeding. i do know what i am talking about. i do it to myself and on my shins and ribs, it works believe me and not someone who has never done it. the funny thing is that i know im wrong and i know your right, yet you keep argueing like it will change my mind. you should really know, you dont have to be right to win:)
Hudson Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Theres no way to "Iron Body" train your ribs. The most you can do is have strong abs and obliques. Also, about losing your breath... it's called controlling your breathing. Unless the hit is totally unexpected, you should learn to get hit and exhale. You can't learn to fight unless you learn to fall. The game of chess is much like a swordfight; you must think before you move.
dear john Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 i never said that my stick training wouldnt prevent him from getting the wind knocked out of him. this strengthens the bones only and probly kills a few nerves while your at it, if you muscles are weak then the stick training is pretty worthless. the funny thing is that i know im wrong and i know your right, yet you keep argueing like it will change my mind. you should really know, you dont have to be right to win:)
GhostlySykanRyu Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 "i never said that my stick training wouldnt prevent him from getting the wind knocked out of him." -Then what's the point? "this strengthens the bones only and probly kills a few nerves while your at it, if you muscles are weak then the stick training is pretty worthless." -Killing the nerves...is that really a good idea? I wouldn't recomend trying to strngthen the ribs themselves...which in theory will not work very well. Strengthening the core muscle group, controlling your brething and Ki, and learning how to defend that particular area would be much more beneficial. The ribs are meant to protect the innards, if you're breaking them down, you're leaving the innards more exposed. I have yet to see any evidence of calcium deposits on ribs (if anyone has any please send it!)...when they are broken, they bruise and heal slowly compared to other parts. If you're striking your ribs then well...that's probably about all you're doing in the process... To condemn the art of another is to condemn your own as well. We all have the same origin.
dear john Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 i asked my doc about this a while ago if i find out he was BSing me im gonnahit the roof. where did you read that you cant build calcium deposits on your ribs. why do some MAs have you kick each other on the body to make it stronger. i wonder if i was simply killing nerves and thats why i thought they were stronger, because i couldnt feel them as much. ill ask my doc again, but i still tink you can build calcium on rib bones. the funny thing is that i know im wrong and i know your right, yet you keep argueing like it will change my mind. you should really know, you dont have to be right to win:)
