JerryLove Posted September 16, 2004 Posted September 16, 2004 A kiah, if properly done, also helps you "lock up" as you strike.I would have to call that an "improper sound". "Locking up" is a bad thing. In that, an eventual locking up helps to deliver a stronger base, which in turn provides a more focused strike.[/qoute] I can't agree... I'm firmly in the "tension = bad" camp. The problem with kiai, and other shouts, is that it can also significantly interfere with fluidity and, if inappropriately applied, can lock you up to doing stupid television-like pauses. Not just improperly applies, but actually improperly done. https://www.clearsilat.com
White Warlock Posted September 17, 2004 Posted September 17, 2004 Well Jerry, since we're not face-to-face to improperly kiai at each other, it's not like this debate will get anywhere, eh? "When you are able to take the keys from my hand, you will be ready to drive." - Shaolin DMV TestIntro
47MartialMan Posted September 17, 2004 Posted September 17, 2004 We are like trees in different woods-we can't hear each others kiah
Shito Ryu Posted November 19, 2004 Posted November 19, 2004 Go to this site... http://taijiworld.com/download/Free_books.htm And download the Internal Gung-fu Volume One\Two. Those books have good info about Qi\Ki. Read that stuff before you add any replies about whether Qi exists or not. Friends may come and go, but enemies accumulate....
