aefibird Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 BritNoob - I have a doorway chin-up bar. I bought it from Argos. Came with a free skipping rope too!! It's probably one of the cheapest that I've seen available on the UK hight street. "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." BritNoob Posted August 30, 2004 Author Posted August 30, 2004 Are they safe to use on any door? I would have thought the weight would damage the doorway. So is it worth doing chin-ups on a regular basis then? Is it the biceps they work?
Little Dragon Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 why not buy those elastic bands? they're great for biceps, triceps and shoulders. And there only about $20-$30 ''I know what your thinking.........did I shoot you 3 times? or did I shoot you 472 times?''
Rich_2k3 Posted August 30, 2004 Posted August 30, 2004 I know I keep bombarding you with websites but I would really check this one out. Reebok do some real high quality fitness gear, and they come free with the Reebok university training programs, real good stuff. Check out the strength section u'll find some of those bands that Little Dragon mentioned (resistance tubes). I've got one myself, great for upper body workouts, check out the Iron wear too. http://www.reebokstore.co.uk/stores/reebok/fitness/default.aspx "When my enemy contracts I expand and when he expands I contract" - Bruce Lee

So is it worth doing chin-ups on a regular basis then? Is it the biceps they work? I just have mine downstairs in the doorway between the front room (lounge) and the back room (dining room). I live in an old crumbling terraced houce and the bar hasn't done any damage to my door or doorway so far, and I've been using it regularly for almost 5 years! The bar I have can also be used as a sit up bar on the lower portion of the doorway. I second Little Dragon's advice about using resistance bands. We have them set up at my dojo to use when kicking and punching - they really make a difference. "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." Fish Posted September 1, 2004 Posted September 1, 2004 By a cheap set of weights and ust them to do a wide range of exercises. Don't pressups work your shoulders (amongst other muscles) - my shoulders usually hurt after I've done pressups. A swiss ball is supposed to be good for abdominals (which are done lying on top of the ball), but I haven't tried it myself. Running is good for overall Cardio conditioning, but you have to stretch plenty to avoid losing flexibility. Also, cycling and swimming are good for this.
