47MartialMan Posted August 28, 2004 Posted August 28, 2004 depends on the perspective... the greeks, persians, etc. various indo-aryan cultures have records of having MA far before asians. Even before the greeks, there's said to be an egyptian style that was named after one of their gods or something. He definitely made a closed minded, ridiculous sounding statement, but MA actually didn't originate in asia... Thank you... Thank you.....don't forget the Indo-Aryans (India) is a far ancient culture much older than China and par to Egypt Someone has been learning their history.
dmoney101 Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 we didn't invint guns. we've just got the best.
47MartialMan Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 not really some of the best came from Germany and a few cam from Russia
TheDevilAside Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 ... Europe is 'Western'. We do have some of the best weaponry, along with Germany. The H&K's are good (I'm sure all of you have heard of an 'MP5'), a lot of US Forces us H&K weapons. Russia has the crappy kalishnikov which is popular because it's easy to produce, cheap, and does the job. The SVD sniper rifle is okay, though. And the Westerners did invent guns, actually. The Chinese were using the powder for fireworks, they just never thought of aiming those fireworks at their enemies. "Martial arts has nothing to do with Asia" or whatever the person said, is a pretty broad statement. Some martial arts have Nothing to do with Asia, and Some martial arts have Everything to do with Asia. That sounds better. Everyone says something stupid once in a while. 47MartialMan Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 Yeah, now that you put it that way. But Chinese were using fireworks as rocket weapons, not in projectile firing weapons
TheDevilAside Posted August 29, 2004 Posted August 29, 2004 They were? I didn't know that, I thought they only used them as entertainment. "If you're going through hell, keep going." - Sir Winston Churchill
Rich_2k3 Posted August 29, 2004 Author Posted August 29, 2004 (edited) Yes, guns are european, china did have gun powder but they used it for fireworks (which they invented) and went on to use it for makeshift rocket launchers (its basically a basket with gunpowder at the bottom and shrapnel/arrows at the top). When the British empire spread across asia we introduced them to projectile weapons like pistols, rifles and cannons.
