hey everybody,

the spinning kick is really really ticking me off. whenever i turn 270 degrees , i always not do it fast enough, i get friction in my feet and when i try to lift the leg, i can only spin ankle hight!, though after some strectching and if im lucky i can do it head hight, the main reason why my kicks are so low, is that i loose my balance, and i dont do it fast enough, whenever i do the kick properly, i dont use the heel, but the bottom and side of the foot,

do any of you guys know how to improve my spinning kick?, my front kick and round kick, side kick are great, can reach over 6ft with them, its just the spinning kick i havent really clicked yet

If you think you can or you can't, either way you're right.

Keep practicing and you'll get it. Also try improving some of the things involved. Try spinning on one foot without the kick, and work on your balance. Some other people will give much more helpful advice I am sure

Bend your support leg, keep your centre of gravity low, and focus your eyes where you want to go. Basically stare at a point and keep looking at it, even when you turn, your head must go first.

Don't feel bad Ad it took me 2 years to do a spinning kick. You will get the hang of it sooner or later just keep trying. It is discouraging in the meantime but see yourself doing it in your mind and keep working.

Try maintaining youre balance in odd positions, by that I mean...stand on one leg, then the other, hand stands, ice skating/roller blading....things like that just help youre general sense of balance.

Unfortunately ad...it comes down to practice and some helpful tips...work on your spin first, and stay on the balls of your feet - that was always a big one for me and it helped alot. Practice makes perfect! Good luck!

If you think something small cannot make a difference - try going to sleep with a mosquito in the room.

Here is kind of an odd idea to help work balance. It came from a physical therapist a while back. Stand in a corner and close your eyes. Just stand there. The corner is supposed to be better than the middle of the room because you can catch yourself on the wall before you hit the floor.

I wonder if doing this on one foot would be the next level? Or maybe doing a simple 180 kind of spin with the eyes closed?

If you want to get your jump kicks higher you should lift weights that require you to lift with the legs. You'll develop an amazing vertical jump and will have time while you're up there to execute a great spin kick. :karate:
