SevenStar
I'm a mesomorph also. I tend to stray from isolation movements when it comes to mass and strength though. different strokes, that's all. I said I think you do too much not because of recovery, but because of strength. In terms of recovery, it's not much at all, but strength building is more neuromuscular than muscular, so heavy weight, low reps and fewer sets is optimal. Radok
This routine is not what I use to gain strength, it's only for mass. If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point. Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate. BritNoob
When you say you need to eat lots to gain mass, what kind of foods should you eat lots of? Does that mean I should eat lots of fatty bad foods or just eat twice as much good food as I would normally?
Radok
Take you body weight in pounds, and that's about how many grams of protien you should get in a day. Other than that, just make sure to get a ton of total calories. If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. BritNoob
I want to build mass but I don't want to get flabby round the waist which is the only place I normally put it on. I'm skinny everywhere else. What foods do you recommend I eat plenty of to gain maximum protein?
Drunken Monkey
....ok. general question. if i am still feeling a little muscle pain, does it mean i am still recovering and should give it another day? or is it ok to work when still hurting? post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." Radok
If you are working on a split routine, work each muscle group once a week. If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. SoulAssassin
....ok. general question. if i am still feeling a little muscle pain, does it mean i am still recovering and should give it another day? or is it ok to work when still hurting? muscle pain is normal. i worked with a lvl 4 (lvls 1-4 4 being highest) personal trainer and he said muscle pain is a torn (not as in ripped apart i need the hospital as in torn an rebuilding bigger) or stretched (easy term) muscle. when muscle is 'torn' it rebuilds itself bigger and allows you to lift a little more (not saying that the next day you can lift 20lbs more, gradual over time). I train 2 different ways an have seen good results off of it, remember everyones different. first way i train is if i have time that day to do a full workout. say if im doing curls (not isolated) with a curl bar (not a straight one) I put 1/4 my max on to warm up, i usually to 2 sets of 8-10 reps to warm up. then i increase the weight to 1/2 and do 2 sets, then 3/4 same thing an then my max an i do it as many times as i can for about 2-3 sets. as in if my max curling on free weights would be 100lbs i would start with 25lbs 2 sets to warm up next would be 50lbs 2 sets to work my way up next would be 75lbs to get the muscles pumping last would be 100lbs to try and build a bit once i find that the weights are starting to be easier then i would throw on 5-10lbs more. if i dont have time to train an i want a quick work out (not always the solution) ill do my warm up weights till im ready, then ill start with my max weight as many times as i can, and with my way down 5-10lbs each set till im just curling the bar, and when you get to the bar it feels like your lifting your max. funny story when i was doing that and i was just lifting the bar a couple of guys were laughing at me because i could barely lift the bar when i was done, my arms were burning so bad. an i told them my workout, and they could barely go through it. got them to stop laughing. oh one more thing, general rule of thumb. to tone lift lighter weights more times (10-15 reps - 5-8 sets or more) to build lift heavier weights less times (5-11 reps - 3-5 sets or more) depending on your body. im done jabbering. -SoulAssassin"I aint gonna eat, I aint gonna sleep, aint gonna breath till I see what I wanna see and what I wanna see is you goto asleep, in the dirt permanently"
SoulAssassin
also they says that using free weights helps the muscle more then machines because most machines isolate thw working muscles. as for a curl machine you might just use the bicept -SoulAssassin"I aint gonna eat, I aint gonna sleep, aint gonna breath till I see what I wanna see and what I wanna see is you goto asleep, in the dirt permanently"
