torris Posted August 13, 2004 Posted August 13, 2004 I go to class 4 times a week, but what I am interested to know is what do the more experienced people do to stay limber. Do you have a set routine, or what? I am still very new (week old) and I have been really impressed with how much my flexibility has improved, but what do I need to do the 3 days I dont have class. Should I just relax, rest, or what?
bluetiger Posted August 14, 2004 Posted August 14, 2004 I stretch everyday (my wife insists). She's very much into yoga, but has shown me some basic stretching excersizes to help me with getting older and not acting older. I also do at least a small work out everyday. But what do I know - I'm just a beginner also!
Shorinryu Sensei Posted August 14, 2004 Posted August 14, 2004 Once you reach the level of limberness (is that a word? ) or flexibility that you want, it's not difficult to maintain it on "off days" (aka no class that day) with some mild stretching as you do things around the house. I will stop sometimes walking into another room and swing (not kick) my legs (one at a time of course ) up and attempt to touch the top of the door jam. I'm pretty tall and yes, I can do that. Or as I'm in the kitchen making something to eat I will swing my leg behind me or to the side as far up as it will go (you need to push yourself). I've been doing this for years that way and I find it saves time rather than going out to the dojo (in my converted attached garage) or going through the formal stretching routine. It's called multi-tasking! My nightly prayer..."Please, just let me win that PowerBall Jackpot just once. I'll prove to you that it won't change me!"
Rotten Head Fok Posted August 15, 2004 Posted August 15, 2004 (edited) This is a topic of which I find myself grossly negligent. I stretch only before, during, and part off my cool-down. I am not happy with my flexability or my lack of effort to improve said elasticity. I know that as soon as I can join the school where I'm moving this will change. However as torris has asked what should a person do(routine) to get started(beginning) ? Edited August 16, 2004 by Rotten Head Fok You must be stable and balanced in your foot work, if you have to use your martial knowledge in combat, your intent should be to win. If you do strike, you must release great power! The martial arts are easy to learn, but difficult to correct.
