Hudson Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 I can see that being relevant if you were drinking straight from the udder... But when you're talking about pasteurized, homogenized, super-dooper-ionized (I might have made that up.), skim milk... it sure isn't the same thing. The game of chess is much like a swordfight; you must think before you move.
battousai16 Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 well, although i've been drinking it all my life (though i don't think it tastes very good), ninjanurse isn't the first person i've heard raise this point. there are other reasons it's supposedly bad for you, and there's other stuff that's supposed to be better at giving you calcium than milk anyway. sadly, i've forgotten all the reasons and alternatives, i'll have to look them up again. No Name Student Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 I agree with ninjanurse also. Some people just aren't meant to drink milk. Lactose intolerance has actually been linked to genetics and ethnicity. And unpasteurized milk can carry harmful bacteria. But if you have been drinking it for two years without experiencing any negative reaction to it, I don't see how continuing to do so would cause any harm. I would recommend sticking to low-fat or non-fat milk but even drinking two cups of whole milk shouldn't cause noticable weight gain. Especially since you are practicing martial artist and, I assume, quite active.
Chirath Posted August 8, 2004 Author Posted August 8, 2004 Well I do seem to cough up loads of mucus in the morning when I drink milk. But your right i've been fine drinking milk and I am a bit active.
No Name Student Posted August 8, 2004 Posted August 8, 2004 Drinking non-fat and/or low-fat milk should help with the phlem. I experience the same thing when I drink regular milk or consume anything with a high fat content. Cutting back on the fat seems to alleviate the problem.
battousai16 Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 well, if you google it, you can get loads of information just talking about how bad it is for you, including the official "not milk" home page. i'm not sure how accurate all of the information is, but it's worth a look. battousai16 Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 ...this is the first i've seen someone go so far as to call it "evil", but... if it'll please you ninja nurse, i have yet to drink any milk today. mostly cuz there's some perfectly good cherry juice right next to it, but... i dunno, i think i sit on the fence on this one. Drunken Monkey Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 milk is not evil. without it, you wouldn't have cheeeeeese....... or cream .....or...... .............ice cream...... post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
battousai16 Posted August 9, 2004 Posted August 9, 2004 ^THAT is another very important point. i'm not quite sure what i'd do without ice cream... or cheese... ...............cream i could do without. "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai
