I've been jogging on the spot for 30 min everyday. To burn off some fat. As well as other excersises. But i've been wondering if jogging on the spot is the same as jogging. I cannot get out of the house so I've been jogging on the spot in the Garden and Sitting Room. My feet seem to really hurt but im not exhausted. And sweat so much that it stinks like hell. Is this actually working or am I just hurting my feet?

All responses will be appreciated :)

It's not nearly as strenuous as actual jogging, but it is more activity than walking over the same amount of time.

Do your feet begin to hurt after a certain amount of time, or from the start?

I don't think that simply jogging in place should be causing your feet to hurt, no more than walking should cause your feet to hurt. 30 minutes is not that long, but it really depends on your level of fitness.

Your jogging in place may simply be aggravating a pre-existing condition with your feet. Your doctor can tell you for sure about that.

They start to hurt after a certain time. I thought 30 min was right because after 20 you start burining calories or something like that. How much would you say I should jog for?

Hey, whatever works! The time you need to exercise to start burning fat depends a lot on what heart rate you are working in. I think a good indication you are doing some good, is you are sweating like a pig! You are doing "low impact" aerobics, which doesn't put a lot of strain on your heart or joints, just gives you a good sweat. Kinda like doing yard work. If you want to bump it up a little, jog on the spot and mix in some mountain climbers, jumping jacks, burpees (I think they're like 5 or 6 count pushups- stand, drop, pushup, jump up, run), and some other stuff. That'll make it a little higher impact, and will pump up the calorie burning more.

Once you get your heart rate up you get into the training state, you start to burn calories and build cardiovascular endurance. This usually occurs after the first five minutes of exercise. Your heart rate needs to be at an approximate range of 110-165 beats per minute depending on your age. Check out this link for your range.

Oh, and running in place is not more strenuous than actual running, but it is better than sitting on the couch. Your feet may be hurting for a lot of reasons. You may be putting a lot of stress on your feet because running in place is not walking or running, i.e. there is no stride, just an up and down pounding. Be sure to wear good shoes and you may want to consider jumping rope if you are house bound.

I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.

if you want something to do in one spot, that actually burns more calories than jogging- jump rope. except for maybe bagwork and serious jogging (like running really fast, i mean) it burns the most calories out of any exercise i can think of.

If you want to "feel exhausted", or feel like you really worked out, you might have to either increase the time you jog in place, or include other types of exercise into your routine, like pushups and situps, or even try some aerobic exercises as seen on TV. Those are probably designed to be performed in your living room.

There's lots of alternatives if you want to bump up the level of effort in your workouts.

Alternate jogging on the spot with skipping with a rope, as jump rope is a very strenuous workout.

Wear good trainers to work out in, as they will protect your feet. Also, make sure that you're working out on a flat surface; a slope outside could make your feet hurt more.

If you're unable to go outside, try turning everyday things into a workout.

Hide the TV remote control, so that you have to get up to change channels. Run upstairs instead of walking. If you're tidying up the house and find things that need to go upstairs, instead of taking a big pile of stuff upstairs in one go, make separate trips for each item. While you're waiting for your dinner to cook, be performing stetches or star jumps or whatever.

Even though you can't get to a gym you can still have a good workout at home.

I've made my workout now 45 min (Max I can do) and have every five minutes of joggin followed by 5 pressups or 10 situps. As well as doing more chores in the house like cleaning. Any more suggestions???

Also does jogging just work on the leg muscles as they are the only ones to ache and seem to have lost a bit of weight on them. If not what excersies will burn the fat in my stomach.

Oh and thanks for the advice about wearing shoe and jogging on a flat surface. Yes, you were right, my feet were hurting because I was pounding on them when

I jogged. They still hurt but alot less. For some strange reason I always land my feet as if im heeling :-?

Thanks for all the advice :karate:

only cardio burns fat. if you need more on the legs, do frog leaps maybe. (you squat like a frog, on your feet and your butt is almost touching the ground.) then you leap as high as you can, and at the top of the jump you pull your feet up to your * again, then you land with your legs almost extended and slow your fall all the way down until youre in the original position. did that make sense?
