Stage one of an Idea I had...

Mayo

Recommended Posts

Okay, This is going to sound funny at first, and alot of you may still think it is funny after reading this, but I need a bit of help developing the proper way of making it, and who better then the other Martial artist?

I have been doing alot of research on weight training and the Martial arts, Some say that you should bulk up and get big. Where as others would say you do not want to do that. I am going with choice B: I don't want to do that. Because I have seen the results of weight training and martial artist, I have seen sevral fights lost because one of the two were muscle bound.

And besides you can lift small and still build strength, the only thing you will really accomplish is getting bigger if you lift bigger weights, where as with smaller weights you "Cut" better, and also you will gain strength.

But to continue.

The idea I had popped into my mind when I was watch Mortal Kombat: Annialation, and the Sub-Zero uniform Kieth Cooke wore triggered something. And I started thinking about it and realized it could be possible. The Vest the gloves and the shin gaurds all caught my eye.

My idea is that the vest you could turn into a weighted vest (20lbs for me)

The gloves you could put weights on, and the shin gaurds also.

So you would have

Cardio Vascular with the vest, which will lead to better cut abs.

The gloves would have to be altered to have the weight evenly perportioned where as instead of the blue being on the back of the glove it wraps all around the wrist not just on top to reduce sliding.

But the gloves would be 5lbs, and evertime you chamber for a punch, you are curling, and everytime you block you are most likely to do a side lateral lift, or front lift to work on your shoulders, and chest.

The shin gaurds would have to be altered as the gloves were. And they would contain 5lbs, Everytime you step you are having to contract the muscle, and evertime you kick you are having to lift the weights.

So you get an over all cardio vascular workout, a cutting workout built into your Form, and you will also increase your speed if you train with the gear on.

the weight would go into the color portions of the vest gloves and shin gaurds.

Now anyone care to tell me I am nuts, or questions that would help me further this idea? Or anyone who cares to help design it, Or if there is a health risk to this ( on joints ) please tell me.

If you're looking for resistance while practicing, practice in the pool.

What you propose is not new, unfortunately. It is, however, loaded with potential problems. In order for such an outfit to fit and not have the weight moving all over the place, it would need to be relatively tight, which could impede circulation, not to mention the skin burns you would get. Increasing your overall weight puts undue strain on the muscles that align your spine. Joint damage is imminent.

also, a weight on your hand isn't really natural resistence for punching/extending motions...

but this has been mentioned before in another forum.

have a look around.

lots of discussions on the use of weights during training.

post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are.

illuminate? i think you mean elaborate.

anyway, yea- that is not a good idea; youll probably end up hurting yourself if you do it for long enough.

and hey, weight training will do nothing but help you in your martial arts endeavors (provided you do it right.) despite the myths, i assure you: it will not slow you down, will not decrease your flexibility, and in order to become "musclebound" you would need to seriously lift for a very long time. its quite hard to actually get to that level, and stay there. (dont underestimate the muscle bound guys though, theyll still tear your head off- they can afterall.)

They have to catch me first, and chances are I will still win.

I am very cocky lol, Never realised that before, but yeah no worries I can handle myself when it comes to them ( I have before ) But thanks for the warning.

If you train with very, very heavy weights (3-6 reps), you can get stronger without getting bigger. This is because you are getting neuralogical training, rather than hypertrophy training, and is the reason there are light weight powerlifters who are very strong.

If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point.

Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.
