battousai16
well, the big SUV's annoy the heck outta' me, too. i dunno about you guys in the UK, or even in the rest of the US, but they're all over Verona, WI, population of just over 8,000. we're in a city. at not time is anyone in danger of high-centering on the exposed root of a banyan tree, no one goes careening off the high way to go tag wildebeests, and you really don't need the 30 inch tire clearance to get over the speed bumps at the west town mall everyone just drives to the local starbucks, drink weird forms of coffee, and compare whose is bigger, whose head rest warms fastest, whose pollutes more, whose waists natural resources more, etc. i've actually had a few stickers printed that say "i don't need an ecosystem, i have an air conditioner!" to slap on 'em, but i just can't do it. blasted martial arts teaching me to respect others and their possessions... bah! aefibird
lol, yeah, they're another of my pet hates as well. 4x4's (I think they're the same as what's known as a SUV in the USA) are a menace in the UK. Sure, they're fine for off-roading or pulling a horsetrailer or whatever, but most the people who own them are mums who just use them to take their kids shopping and to school. If you're gonna buy a 4x4 at least do something other than drive round town in it!! I read in a newspaper the other day that 4x4 drivers are the most dangerous on the roads, as most of the people who drive them are inexperienced and unable to cope with the demands of such a powerful vehicle. That's before we start talking about what gas guzzling polluters the vehicles are... "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." battousai16
not to mention they're so easy to tip over, and everyone behind the wheele feel invincible. bah! Drunken Monkey
...well, you must remember that we sell GOOD cars in the uk so they're not easy to tip over. but yes. too many times i have been stuck behind a land rover being driven by a woman with a single child in a child seat in the back, trying to park..... post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." Drunken Monkey
......i'm not bitter. i just don't understand. you are a nation of people who expect the best service and the best products. you also are a (generally) very proud/patriotic nation. this has lead to the majority of car buyers choosing u.s cars over a foreign car. the car manufacturers know this and hence sell you guys big steaming piles of poo and you don't complain. instead, you eagerly await the next, newer bigger pile of steaming poo. what makes it even more galling is that the newer bigger steaming pile of poo, is just the old steaming pile of poo, with new clothes on... AND we share quite a few similar cars EXCEPT the ones we get here are better for actual driving. witness OUR ford focus ST170 vs YOUR focus svt. where-as we have nice taut, sharp, responsive steering+suspension+ride, you have spongy, treacle laced equivalents. so even if they share a name, they are often, not even very similar beyond the shape.... back to my opening of this post, you guys are a nation people who expect the best service and the best products, yet you are willing to accept trash in the name of patriotism. you shouldn't accept it. you should complain. the old business adage is true; customer is king. you have power yet you choose to not exercise it. i'm not bitter. just a little sad... post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." battousai16
well, you know, we ARE a nation outside of texas. i think most of us actually buy foreign cars, in recognition that our own are poo. i really don't know that many people who own buy ford, and the ones that do are all truck owners, which, as i understand, still suck. the key point you touched on is that we don't complain. we've known for awhile that ford was intentionally putting out inferior products knowing the chances of there breaking down in 3 years, knowing they'd come back to ford. but no one ever did anything. i'd also like to point out that we're only patriotic on independance day and whenever there's a big disaster. and not a natural disaster, it MUST be an attack from another country, or a lack of support but now i'm making this thread political, and patrick alreay yelled at me for that "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai
Drunken Monkey
i really don't know that many people who own or buy ford that just illustrates my point. outside of the u.s.a, ford are actually quite good and if given the choice of buying a good small/medium family car, you'd be stupid not to consider a ford. the best things they have/had i.e mondeo st200/st220, puma, focus RS (in fact, any focus with PROPER suspension set-up), you guys don't get even a sniff at. the sad thing is, other car makers also have to alter their cars for your market, making them INFERIOR versions of what the rest of the world gets. i mean, mitusbishi lancer EVO VIII that doesn't have the AYC??? how can it call itself the EVO when it doesn't have the one thing that makes it drive like it's supposed to? post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." battousai16
not being a car guy, i have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai
Drunken Monkey
basic gist=car makers in the u.s get away with selling crap. the same car makers sell good versions of the crap cars in the rest of the world. who is to blame? the car makers? or the buyers? the thing with the EVO. let's use martial arts to illustrate. style A teaches a complete syllabus all over the world. however, in one country, the most important aspect of the syllabus is omitted completely but still call's it self the complete system A. that's basically what is happening. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite."
