BritNoob
I recently had tennis elbow (unrelated to Karate) and it's recently flared up again despite not doing the activity that originally brought it on (drawing too much would you believe). I was wondering if press-ups or any other karate exercise may be causing it to return. It is very irritating. Has anyone else had this before? It is very small repetitive movements that cause it so I can't see how press ups or weights (I so some lifting at home, nothing much at all) would hurt it. aefibird
If you're unsure why it's flared up again then getting yourself down to the GP's surgery would be the best thing.(ah, the wonders of free NHS healthcare! ) If you explain to him/her about your problem and exactly what training you're doing he or she should be able to tell you what's causing it. You may need a bout of physio to put it right. Alternatively, try easing up a bit on the training at home for a while to see if it makes it any better. Finally, make sure you're doing your exercises and weight lifts correctly. Bad technique could be putting strain on your elbow. If you're unsure of a particular technique then ask someone who knows or go to the local gym and ask an instructor or check on the web for the correct way to do the excerices you're doing. Hope it clears up soon! "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." The Beautiful South - The Rose of My CologneSheffield Steelers! GCEE
I would recomend taking Flax Seed Oil and DMSO. Flax Seed Oil should be taken daily regardless of tennis elbow because of all the great benifits it provides for your body, which include reducing inflamation and greasing up those joints . DMSO should also be used from time to time if you find yourself having flair ups. I would give both a try. I suffered from tennis elbow for a very long time, even without much physical activity. I tired many things from shark cartilage to MSM. It wasnt until I started using both DMSO and Flax, that I was able to get rid of the problem. Good Luck
BritNoob
Thanks, guys. My doctor is getting sick of seeing me I think, I'm always down there moaning it seems I've stopped doing the activity that brought it on so i don't see why it won't go, I'm taking tablets as well. I hope karate isn't causing a problem. I'll give Flax seed oil a go, what's DMSO btw?

Thats the only stuff I cant swallow without any problems. Try taking 3-4 tbsp a day in the beggining. For DMSO, Make sure your elbow is totally clean( clean with alcochol prior) because the DMSO will take any agents on the skin into your blood stream and system. I aplly the dmso with cotton swabs. Good Luck and let me know how things go.
BritNoob
I didn't go back to the doctors as I still have a few of these tablets left so i'll give it a bit more time. This'll be the 3rd time i would have gone to see the doc just about my elbow! Looks like it'll need a jab to calm it down. I can't keep having it jabbed though everytime it flares up as it'll ruin my arm. I just assumed Flax seed would be in tablet form - I'll have to see if I can find a nicer tasting brand then. I'm not sure if DMSO is available in the UK, I'll have to have a look around. Thanks again
aefibird
Ask around at the local health food shop (Holland & Baratt or similar) - they might know of a product that is similar or the same as DMSO. They might also be able to sell you some nice tasting flax seed oil! "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." The Beautiful South - The Rose of My CologneSheffield Steelers! You will have to take 20 pills to equal 4 tbps. That will get very expensive and annoying. I order my supplememnts from this company http://lifesvigor.com/prod/2617/index.htm http://lifesvigor.com/prod/10770/index.htm Let me know how it goes. I suffered from tennis elbow for a VERY LONG TIME , and know the frustraition that comes along with it. I hope this helps
