Cheradenine
Through my 2 years of MA so far of pressups and situps (in dojo and out) I have built up a lot of muscle, and lost alot of body fat - although late last year something 'gave' in my lower back and I had to see my physio. I now have a few excersises to use such as hyper extentions etc... but after situps and pressups at times I can feel tension still there. I'm just wondering who else has experienced weak a lower back and what other sorts of excersises you have done to combat this?
Luckykboxer
Your midsection is one of the most important things for stabilizing and being your base for all punches and kicks. One thing people do that is a mistake is they do abwork like crazy and develop outstanding abdoninals, but neglect to ever do any back excercises... lower back specifically. one thing to remember is that you dont want to do excercises that cause you sharp pains, if it gets to that point stop let your body rest. there are a large number of lower back excercises you can do. from simply laying on your stomach with arms stretched in front of you and legs straight behind and at the same time lift arms and legs up towards the roof.. Do sets of this like you would sit ups. that is a basic one, i am sure if you go on the net and search for lower back workouts you will find alot mroe that are adequate
granmasterchen
i also have lower back pains in the lumbar region. see your doctor or a physical therapist for some good little exercises. That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
Radok
You could start doing the good morning lift with just the bar, going for high reps to slowly build up the muscle. If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point. Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate. Chibi
I also have back problems. I started doing some yoga exercises for my back and since then it hasn't been half as bad as it was.
aefibird
I'd recommend yoga or pilates too. Great excercises for stretching and toning. Make sure you get advice from a good yoga or pilates instructor, though, as you could do more harm than good by doing the excercies incorrectly. "Was it really worth it?
