Thuggish Posted June 20, 2004 Posted June 20, 2004 what, white belt? muscles are important in anything involving fighting. a broken arm throws no punches
markusan Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 It depends how you do the pushup. If you do a deep pushup on your knuckles and explode out of it and maybe put a clap in at the end you do more than build endurance. In any sport if you want to build speed and power it's good to start with an endurance base, then train for the type of movement you want. Try doing pushups as if you are doing a double punch with the same speed and power. They're very practical too. You can drop and do 20 any time any place.
Fish Posted June 22, 2004 Posted June 22, 2004 Is it a good idea to try to put on muscle mass, or are you better off concentrating on endurance/ speed? "They can because they think they can." - School Motto.(Shodan 11th Oct 08)
WolverineGuy Posted June 23, 2004 Posted June 23, 2004 Muscles aren't as important as functional strength. To clarify: body builders don't have the same kind of strength as power lifters, power lifters don't have the same kind of explosiveness as a trained MMA fighter. Look at Tim Sylvia...the guy is BIG...but not ripped, and he's 18-1, former world champion. Strength is important, but more importantly is the type of strength.
