In all honesty aefibird, that article actually brought a tear to my eye. I've always had pretty low self confidence and I'm just "recovering" from a mental illness. This illness has kept me secluded from everybody and everything around me. Over the past couple of weeks, I've decided to take my recovery even further and I'll be taking my first Shotokan class next week. I just hope that the MA lifestyle will touch me as it has touched you.

Thank you very much for a great read.

Thanks for reading, Doc. I hope that your Shotokan classes work out great for you! :)

Nice read, and thank you for sharing. wow, I can relate to the school thing too. I love going to class. I feel like the real me when im leaving the Dojo, and even my friends notice the difference in my attitude. I was in Karate when I was a kid but we allways moved, and I never had a chance to make any rank. so last December I seen a school nearby where I used to live, I moved some 52 miles away. but I still make the drive twice a week and am testing for my purple next month. I love the way I feel now, like I have something everyone envys'. unlike all the material stuff, I actually have goals that I can see myself achieving. better yet they cannot be repo'd or stolen from me. :brow:

:) Wow that was a brilliant read, and yes it brought a tear to my eye too! I can also relate to a lot that you were saying, as i am sure a lot of others can to. I myself am an ex alcoholic and suffered with severe post-natel depression, as a result i have a panick dissorder. My karate also helped me throughout it all, i can now have 2 beers and then go home, i no longer take medication and i can keep my anxiety under control.

You are an inspiration to us all...i truly mean that, well done and keep being proud of yourself!
