What are some exercises to be able to jump really high and kick, for example to do a 720 kick? Or any sites that show techniques for taekwondo kicking and exercies.

Thanks

I read an article by Hee Il Cho once on this subject. If your knees can take it one exercise that will really help you is to squat real low and then jump as high as you can. Do this over and over. I am very heavy so I cant do most of the really hard spin kicks, however, having strong stomach muscles will allow you to whip your body around much faster. For this simple sit-ups will work. I prefer Bicycle Crunches, where the elbow of each arm is brought to the opposing knee in turn as you raise the knee towards your chest. Just remember to lift with your stomach and not to pull on the back of your head with your hands.

Back when i was training regularly i was able to do the jumping kicks quite well, infact, whenever my club did demonstrations, they would use me in the finale.

i took a couple years off between TKD and shotokan, so lost some of my fitness, but its coming back. I have recently become very focused in my MA and am beginning to practice my TKD as well as karate.

It takes a big man to admit when he's wrong, and I am NOT a big man.

I like doing the squat jumps, in addition to calf raises... just stand feed together and raise slowly up and down to your tippy-toes a few hundred times...

also, don't forget simple technique things. don't forget to rotate the shoulders, keep your eyes on the target, etc.

tommarker hit the nail on the head when he said:

I would try a google search on plyometrics. Excellent exercises for improving footwork and vertical leap.

But a caution goes out before starting plyometric training. It has been suggested that an athlete be able to squat twice his body weight before attempting depth jumps.
