GhostFighter Posted May 20, 2004 Posted May 20, 2004 I really want to join a MA buy im still in the dark about what would be most fitting for me so i tought if i could point out some styles that i like then someone could name a MA that suits the most for me. The thing that i like to do is to learn to cause massive damage to someone in a little time or make a fight end by disableing someone's attack and also in a relative short of time. My first bet on that would be Jiu Jitsu but maybe there are other arts that would be more fitting for me? Everyday is a fight
Legion Posted May 20, 2004 Posted May 20, 2004 it depends like so many will say... i dont know much but my club is a wide range of MAs .. not just one style i learn kung fu jujitsu chinese boxing ba qua judo karate etc etc .. i dnot know any specific styles so one of the experts will help i think ju jitsu is mostly about locks and disabling ... i tihnk Orange sash
Sawamura Wannabe Posted May 21, 2004 Posted May 21, 2004 Krav Maga is a style that fits what you are looking for perfectly. It's brutal, and focuses on going all out to end a fight as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, I've heard it's becoming a big franchise, and that we don't get the instruction they would in Israel, but I think it's still worth it for you to check out if you live near a school. I think Black Belt's site lists some styles and what aspects of combat those styles focus on. That may be of help to you if you are unable/unwilling to take KM for whatever reason.
Thuggish Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 lots of damage eh? id recommend some sort of hard striking art, boxing, kickboxing, muay thai.... and yea, some grappling would be great, because on the street if you can grapple, you can control a lot of things and do a lot of damage. lift some weights while youre at it- muscles are very important. a broken arm throws no punches
italian_guy Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 I think you need a full contact self defence based MA like kickboxing (with self defence application),Muay Thai, Krav Maga, JKD (if done properly). Then you can add some grappling JJJ or BJJ are good options but I think your main base should be striking.
embm Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 Do you want something that you are going to stay with or do you want something that you can learn and utilize quickly? If you want something you can utilize quickly, I recommend CDT developed by Tom Patire (see articles in Black Belt Magazine). I have taken it as a compliment to the style of TDK I study (Chung do kwan). Team RespectI may have taught you everything you know, but I haven't taught you everything I know. Age and treachery can beat youth and speed any day.
Dijita Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 Kyokushin is another hard contact art... though not sure if it's for you because it also has traditional elements of karate like kata. You might be better off with something like MT.
aefibird Posted June 14, 2004 Posted June 14, 2004 I'd suggest Muay Thai, Krav Maga, Kickboxing or Boxing with BJJ or JuJitsu for grappling. "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." The Beautiful South - The Rose of My CologneSheffield Steelers!
Thuggish Posted June 15, 2004 Posted June 15, 2004 i dont know italian guy- strictly grappling vs strictly striking on the street... id give it to the grappler. especially if its one of the two vs untrained opponents. a broken arm throws no punches
