If you just want to be healthy.. eat some fruit, plenty o' vegetables, meat is good (veggies, please don't throw a fit), and grains. And remember to stay away from junk food, such as potato chips and anything with the McDonald's logo on it.

I try to eat high protein foods...a lot. cut down on the junk, that should be good enough for most people.

holy holy crap, thats a lot of weight for that height. honestly, a specialist trainer richard simmons type would be a good idea... help you cut the calories and all; but if they put you on all protein atkins bull * fire them. and please, please- start jogging. a lot. and bike riding. and tae bo. and whatever else is cardio for you. dont mean to criticize or anything, dont get me wrong- but that kind of weight is unhealty... gotta lose it.

I used to be overweight.

I did the South Beach diet, and it's helped me get to where I wanted, along with intense karate training. You've already taken the first step in the right direction by becoming more active, and DO NOT let up!

The diet is basically an atkins-type diet, but only for two weeks (I can't see anybody doing atkins long term, eating all that junk has got to do more damage than good), and then it allows you to add back (slowly) most of the things you cut out.

The only things I avoid now are sugar (I have a little bit), and very simple carbohydrates (white breat and white potatoes).

Any of these low-carb diets can be dangerous (IMHO), but I think that cutting most of the sugar and simple carbs from your diet will result in weight loss.
