Steinhauers
My first competition was in Medina, Ohio, USA. There was probably around 30 people in my age range ( 18-34 ). I'm a blue belt in Shotokan and have been practicing for around 6 or 7 months. Well here are my results. Open Hand Kata - 2nd place - Kanku Dai Weapons Kate - Bo Staff - 1st place - Tokomeni No Dai (spelling?) Kumite - 4th place Going into the competition I knew my weak point was Kumite but i'm happy with the result of everything. The last dojo I was at for about 4 months was no contact sparring until black belt. It was a strick shotokan course at a college but I changed to a local dojo so I had only full contact ( no face contact ) around 10 times before going. My Sensei thinks I got cheated out of first place in open hand kata. I'm not letting this go to my head i'm still training hard. Seth

ramymensa
I'm a blue belt in Shotokan and have been practicing for around 6 or 7 monthsForget me for being so picky, are we talking here blue belt (5 kyu) or a smaller rank? To become a 5th kyu it takes more than 7 moths ... around 3 years ... Anyway great job on the contest. Keep on training and competing and the results would be more and more pleasant World Shotokan Karate
italian_guy
Congratulations. Blue belt after 6-7 months looks strange, in our school you can advance 1 belt every 6 months (and you have to be good) so to get to blue belt takes at least 2 years. But other schools, other systems I don't know.
blitzcraig
im a 6th blue and it took about a year.....actually almost 2 but I was out for a year. Good job on the comp!!! We are hosting one june 5th im gonna enter....my problem is I have trouble hitting some people in sparring and with my luck those would be the people I have to fight, but then again there are the people who I can kick in the head no problem so i'll just have to work on it. #1"The road to tae kwan leep is an endless road leading into the herizon, you must fully understand its ways". #2"but i wanna wax the walls with people now" #1"come ed gruberman, your first lesson is here.....boot to the head" #2"ouch, you kicked me in the head", #1"you learn quickly ed gruberman"
