Reklats
Almost completely guys in my class. I guess it's a good thing, I feel pretty bad sparring women. I'm torn between not crushing them, and offending them by going too easy.
Ironberg
I know how you feel. It's especially hard if you feel attracted to the gal. You feel like you're trampling on your neighbor's rose garden. Yeah, hardly any gals sign up for Karate. But, we've got 95% ladies in the cardio kickboxing classes. SevenStar
at my main club (where I train MT, judo and bjj) we have only one woman. No kids, as they aren't allowed. However, then kenpo class upstairs has a fair amount of women and some big kids classes.

cathal
I find myself happier that there is more of a mix in my dojo, it shows me that MA isn't just for men anymore, and that they can excel. One of the women in the dojo won a gold medal in our last national competition. She is not only a good fighter but she seems to live the life of a karateka and I use her as one of the templates for what I do. .The best victory is when the opponent surrendersof its own accord before there are any actualhostilities...It is best to win without fighting.- Sun-tzu

aefibird
Interesting topic Italian Guy! In my karate dojo it's about 85% men. There's more kids than adults at the moment, but it's roughly equal between adults and children usually. At the freestyle self defence my instructor does it's about 50-50 between men & women, no children allowed. At my (now sadly closed) Aikido dojo I was the only female student, and the only woman student that they'd for quite a while. It wasn't that they were sexist or anything like that, it was simply the club was a very small club and that's just how it had worked out. It was wierd training only with men - I could see they struggled a lot with trying to do the technique properly, like I'd want them to and also with being gentlemanly and holding back for fear of hurting me, a similar situation to what Reklats described. Fenris-wolf
Almost completely guys in my class. I guess it's a good thing, I feel pretty bad sparring women. I'm torn between not crushing them, and offending them by going too easy. I know it's not the topic, and I also know where you're coming from because despite being a girl I prefer to spar with men (I know they won't complain!). But you're working on the assumption you can "crush them"... As for my class, it's actually run by the University and so we have a high "beginner" turnover. At the two classes (out of ten-ish) we hold up at the Uni there are about even numbers, but in terms of "serious" practicioners... Well, it's abou 4:20, and since all the other girls are holidaying/injured, at the moment I'm the only woman! Let Us Turn The Jump Rope In Accord With Socialist Principles! Reklats
But you're working on the assumption you can "crush them"... I used to do tkd, and women would beat me all the time with their super flexibility (in point sparring). I do bjj now, which is a grappling art, so the fact that I weigh 60+ lbs more than the average woman gives me a huge edge. (I have to worry about literally crushing them ) I know that if I ran into a very skilled woman I would still get my butt kicked though.
ramymensa
The extra weight must be used though ... I've grappled with heavier men (not unusual since I'm skinny and tall) and they couldn't put me to the groung yet. The lack of suplementary kilos can be made up by skill and snake like movements World Shotokan Karate
